Replace my DAC or not?
mbiondo - I was also a fan of a vintage Theta Casanova, which for a while held it's own. Something changed over the past 5 years, specifically with the perfomance of RedBook sources. That is where I think the real delta between vintage and modern ...
Nuforce STA200
@mrdecibel Then I stand corrected. :) Erik
Nuforce STA200
NuForce uses a hybrid approach, very similar to Carver's idea, and << cough >> borrowed by Yamaha in the EEEngine design. Not sure if Yamaha ever licensed it or waited for patents to expire. The voltage + and - rails are Class D, and t...
Terminals spade type loosening the binding posts
+1 for locking banana plugs. Furutech plugs suck, stick with WBT and others. Also, avoid Rhodium, it is just too hard. Best,E
Terminals spade type loosening the binding posts
I know this problem. The issue is actually that the nuts on the speaker AND/or the spades are too hard. If they were soft, they would deform just a touch and grip. What you want to use are spring-loaded WBT terminals like these:http://partsconnexi...
Bi Wiring for speakers question
They do make "extra wide" spades Will, if you must have them. :)
Dated but still A rated DACs
I consider Mytek's fairly new, and very good sounding. Theta's always sound good too. An underrated performer, the Casanova, goes up to 96kHz/24, and does sound much better on hi-res than Redbook.
Whole House Mains Wiring -- Ping: Jea48 (Jim) -- & ALL Others for your HELP!
Flexibility and Ethernet. Consider a sub-panel, which will make any future changes and expansions a lot easier.  Whether lighting, projection, who knows. Having a sub-panel makes changes easier. Also, I do not like to rely on WiFi for streaming. M...
Aragon 2002 Pre amp to a Monitor Audio subwoofer
The problem with most such outputs is they are driven by a single output stage. If you short them, they will become mono. Subwoofer inputs however are buffered, and keep the L and R separated as far as the preamp is concerned. Best,E
Class D is just Dandy!
Sorry George, as always, you are going to have to pivot from one point to another by yourself. If you need a dance partner it is not me.Erik

Compare the PS Audio design to the Bel Canto monoblocks:https://www.stereophile.com/content/bel-canto-eone-ref600m-power-amplifier-measurementsFar lower noise and distortion.
Class D is just Dandy!
I must say that for any amplifier, the PS Audio Stellar's measure poorly. Most Class D amps I know of do considerably better. I'm more than a little surprised PS Audio put that out there.
Aragon 2002 Pre amp to a Monitor Audio subwoofer
I can't find any reference to such a preamp. Are you sure you got the model right?
Class D is just Dandy!
Shadorne, That's not really a factoid so much as an operating principle. You make it sound as if the specifications are illegitimate, they aren't. The filter removes the noise you are talking about, so that the noise is on the inside, but not the o...
Which Patricia Barber album floats yer boat?
Out of the six albums I own: The Cole Porter MixMonday Night Live at the Green MillI’m afraid that Cafe Blue in my mind just did not age well in. It’s extremely clean and lacks any noise at all, but for musical enjoyment the latter albums easily s...
