Household Surge Protectors - Good or Bad?
@dweller My condolences, but the ones I know of don’t trip. There is no breaker on them to trip and reset. They may however go out and need replacement eventually.
Household Surge Protectors - Good or Bad?
Also, in case anyone cares, these whole house surge arrestors have been around for decades. Most electricians don't think to offer them.
Household Surge Protectors - Good or Bad?
The surge protector you had installed does not affect the ground, itself. It's a good thing, and if you are going to use these types of surge protectores (parallel mode) the panel is exactly where it should go. However, you definitely have a groun...
Listening Height Adjustment -- Is This Why Two People Don't Hear the Same?
surely tilting causes all sorts of other issues however by changing the relationship of the mid range and bass drivers to the floorLess than you think.  -- it also doesn't help if you have more than one listener and need to adjust quickly between ...
Listening Height Adjustment -- Is This Why Two People Don't Hear the Same?
It's not so much the height but the relative angle... this means you can do this adjustment by tilting the speakers themselves if you can. :) Speakers do sound different on angle. Some makers specifically recommend you not toe the speakers in. Thi...
Older Receiver as power amp using tape out jacks to separate pre-amp?
I'm not sure if you want the tape out or tape in, but yes.
Web / Streaming Radio
The Toronto Jazz FM 91 is pretty progressive. Also run on East Coast time so I miss a great deal. Voted best Jazz station on earth at least once. :) However, I mostly listen to KCSM. These days I'm not so much into discovery so much as relaxing.
Optimal Volume and Settings for Mytek Brooklyn
MQA isn’t how I experienced this. That seems to work fine. It seems to happen when switching via USB and internet radio. If you are using a pre, most bypass the Mytek volume control entirely, letting it output full range, and using the pre to redu...
Optimal Volume and Settings for Mytek Brooklyn
Ohh, I know. :) There is a Mytek bug! :) Sometimes it doesn’t switch sample rates correctly. It’s not related to volume, but changing sources, especially Internet radio. I used to get it often while switching to a Canadian station that played at 9...
Optimal Volume and Settings for Mytek Brooklyn
What are you driving with the Mytek? It may have too much output for the amps. Using my ICEpower amps, volume ranges from -55 for TV to -40 for music. If I have a pre-amp I run it full range (-0) and get zero distortion. If you want MQA you can't ...

Class D is just Dandy!
Tom - Yeah, I’m using an NAD D 3020 in the bedroom. It’s a hybrid Class D designed by Hypex, so it runs a little warmer than you’d expect. It’s really quite nice. One thing I’ve learned recently is NAD is using 3 different types of Class D: 1 - Di...

Stands, to couple, or not to couple, contradicting products and positive reviews
No, don't hang the speakers. <hahahahahaa>Newton's third law would cause lots of doppler distortion. The woofer would act on the air and he cabinet, causing it to move back and forth, and altering the intended output. You can hear this with ...
Stands, to couple, or not to couple, contradicting products and positive reviews
You want to avoid large surface to surface contact, but you want to minimize the movement of the speaker due to reaction to the driver forces. So, you want the largest point to point distances, highest mass. If you have carpets, spikes will ensure...
