Sound from my turntable is veiled (like behind a curtain)
I agree a nice phono stage is needed, but have you checked the manual for your current pre? It sounds like the pre could be misconfigured for the cartridge.
Is Speaker design evolution stagnant
OP:You need to go away. Seriously. You need to go away from this forum and go build your own active speakers. :)Join us over in DIYAudio or the Parts Express forums. You'd learn a huge amount, build just what you like for pennies on the dollar and...
Pass XA200.8 Review - Fun measurements
I read the measurements and they are quite respectable and aren’t pejorative in substance or assessment. I disagree. That’s quite a bit of distortion in the 21st century. I’m not trying to grind an ax here so much as talk about whether it is exact...
Dac Technology Mature?
I think there will always be variations in sound quality, just like there are in preamps and amps. Now, is it mature? Over the past 10 years many DACs have stepped up. The tell for me is Redbook playback. It is suddenly MUCH better than before, an...
Black backgrounds and such
I think it's both being super quiet, but also letting you hear into the acoustics of the recording. Audibly, it feels as if the wall behind the speakers disappears and you are in a different physical space. Kind of related, tape yourself talking i...
chinese counterfeitng
There are fakes for everything, from AC plugs to amplifiers. There are even "semi-fakes" like M&K had. Same factory produces it's own run, not even tested, sells out the back.
Pass XA200.8 Review - Fun measurements
hddg : I very much care about measurements. That is part of how I enjoy this hobby is learning what measurements mean to perceived sound quality. That doesn’t mean I buy based on . specs. The point of this thread is very much to help illuminate th...
Am I hearing things?
+1 @mickeyb Do not put a 30 Amp breaker on 20 amp wiring/outlet. This is life endangering, not to mention illegal. Of all possible tweaks, don't do this one.
Mytek Brooklyn - A dangerous pre!
Hey @pops - Not really. I'm surprised static causes digital devices issues, still. It has been a long time since I saw equipment glitch from static. I thought this got solved in the 20th century. :)Best,E
Mytek Brooklyn - A dangerous pre!
True! I just don’t have a nearby exposed ground. I’ll just stick to the remote until that changes.Honestly this caught me by surprise because it has been AGES since I had a static sensitive piece of gear.
DO CABLES REALLY MATTER?
Q: Do cables really matter? A: Yes.Q: Are they worth the cost: A: Rarely. I’ve had enough experience with cables to note some differences between brands and construction. Can I justify more than $100 for any pair? No. I can’t. Honestly if you obse...
Tweeters for ASW Cantius 504 ( german loudspeakers)
Have you tried taking one off to see if it is labelled?
Re-terminate cardas speaker cables DIY?
Use crimp-on copper sleevings. Then screw onto that. https://www.partsconnexion.com/crimp-sleeves.htmlYou can find cheap versions of the WBT crimper for $20 or so. :) Also, much prefer WBT over Furutech for reliability and build quality. Best,Erik
Affordable Processor with Fabulous 2 Channel ?
I don't really care about Atmos. 5.1 is enough for me though! :) Maybe I'll check out the Bryston too. :)
Affordable Processor with Fabulous 2 Channel ?
Bryston SP3's are ridiculously cheap used. What's up with that?
