Can a CD player being close to a receiver or power amplifier affect its performance? Sounds mechanical. Either too close to the speakers or you rattled it during the move. It could be power related, but honestly not my first bet.
Ask the local curmudgeon (me) anything related to tech or liquor. :) Moscow Sunset
Best analog high pass filter for low $ You can implement a first order high pass filter with a single series capacitor. Given the high impedance of most amps, you can get a very very good cap relatively cheap. Best,E
Graduating to separates need help So you are still doing integrated gear, but just splitting it up differently. In your case you are combining the DAC with the preamp, and looking for a separate amp. In your budget I would instead suggest you go the other way. Get a separate DAC, a...
interpretation of dealer speaker statement needed This is not unlike what you'd read in a Stereophile review, classifying speakers according tho how easy or difficult they are to drive. In fact, chances are he/she copied it right out of a Stereophile review. :)
Advice on acoustic treatment Talk to GIK Acoustics. I use panels behind the speakers and the couch for the same reason.
What Shunyata and Furman (SMP) Have in common - Inductance! @ptss If you use a coaxial cable into the home, consider a coax ground loop isolator. They work great to remove ground loops, and sometimes (but not always) can clean up DAC's too. :) They're super cheap, like $20 or so. Sometimes a ground loop ma...
Cardas Cables vs Wireworld Cables The only thing I look for in power cables is whether they are shielded or not. The idea of using exotic construction to improve high frequency transmission is exactly the opposite of what they should do. I find WW generally a trade-off. They trade...
I need bass Room acoustics matter a great deal. They can tighten up the bass and smooth out the treble. For the latter, use blankets, and try throwing some around on the floor, behind and between your speakers, as well as adding pillows above your sofa, etc. ...
Digital clock - any recommendations? This difference may:1- not be better2- is very DAC dependent. From an electrical engineering point of view, you want the clock as physically close to the DAC for the best signal and lowest jitter. I prefer to get a DAC with a great internal clock, ...
Which Has Best Sound Quality -- CD vs. Tidal vs. FLAC Uploaded From Burned CD I find this question DAC dependent. What do you use?
What Shunyata and Furman (SMP) Have in common - Inductance! @ptss I recommend a balanced approach.Good acoustics first. I also recommend, if you are concerned, keeping noise creating power supplies (switching wall warts) outside your clean power zone. It is convenient to use a conditioner with mulitple, is...
Looking to upgrade my old Conrad Johnson PV12 As I recall, those pres only have a single cap in the signal path. Fun upgrades, but that can get pricey.
Ugrade-itis - is there a cure? Of course, one of the best ways to cure upgrade-itis is to build your own speakers. :) Best,E
