How many audiophiles do you need to change a lightbulb?
All of you are wasting your time changing light bulbs when the problem is the paint. It is always the paint. Always.:D Erik
Fundamental importance of power management
Hi @ptss You make a bit of a straw man argument here: but, all talk of room acoustics first seems to me is putting the cart before the horse...  Room acoustics “cannot” improve the quality of the sound emanating from the sources. Absolutely n...
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
So glad you asked. The speakers I use are the most exclusive in the world, using components typically found in Gryphon, Wilson and other exotic manufacturers:https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2017/12/snr-1-two-way-high-end-diy-monitor.html...
Any word when Yamaha M-5000 amp will hit the U.S.
Me neither, pretty frustrating, though I thought the speakers were making their way in pretty quickly. Though since I just upgraded, and really really don't have the space for massive components I'm afraid I'll just be an observer of this phenomen...
Luxman 509X vs Mc452 + preamp
While I disagree that 30W is enough, the Luxman is a lot closer to Dagostino than Mc.Mc you really really have to listen to the specific models. I've heard awful, bright, hard setups, and gods, their speakers suck.
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
@riaa : That's why I said it's a lifestyle change. I am very happy with my speakers, and am not swapping them to accommodate 30 W class A. :) Best,E

@jetter You make a very good point. I have not heard a lot of Class D but I liked what I used (still own). I cannot speak for all Class D, but I will say I love the Luxman and quite happy to keep it for a long time. I'm not at all sure he'll run i...
OT: Using electrostatic motors for a watch movement
Hi @ebm I’m sad to see you still can’t find your joy, and seem to be making fun of me being more discerning and less price conscious than many here. Sure, let’s go. There isn’t a Rolex after 1975 worth wearing (unless given to you as a gift, in wh...
Caps for crossover upgrade for Opera Grand Callas Loudspeakers
Hi  @grunterIf a 10uF cap was exactly like 2 x 5uF caps and those were exactly 2 x 2.5uF caps you'd be correct. However, in listening to Clarity CMR caps I have not found this to be true, but this could be due to the the specific crossover I was w...
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
Hi @yyzsantabarbara That's' a difficult question without knowing what kind of bass issues you have run into already. Honestly, Class D is really good now, if you feel DSP is a possibility, consider the Anthem integrated vs. the Luxman integrated a...
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
About the 590: I. CAN'T.LIVE.WITH.30.WATTS.Sorry, low power class A is an entire lifestyle change I would not be willing to make.
Going linear - The Luxman 507ux
Just FYI, it seems there is another batch of 505ux on sale via the Agon and Excel Audio in Newport Beach.

Taking into account that these are very different amps, I'm wondering how you use the loudness control. @ericsch Honestly I don't. :) I think for me I get enough resolution at lower levels, though occasionally the music is so interesting I do rai...
Bias adjustment on solid state amplifiers
The main reason to increase the bias of a SS amp is to reduce crossover (i.e. notch) distortion, but it is not really something a consumer should do, and the benefits are rarely worth the risk to the transistors and power supply. Where exactly to ...
Caps for crossover upgrade for Opera Grand Callas Loudspeakers
Ahhhh, that makes more sense, @dgarretson Based on my experience, I'd really love to try using smaller CMR caps to build up larger values. I think there's something about the uF being larger than 4 ~ 5 uF that matters. I don't have any money for t...
