Hearing phase distortion
It is really hard to engage with so many undefined terms like "phase distortion" being used, but based on your description, you aren't hearing change in relative time, so much as changes to frequency response. Comb filtering effects caused by diff...
What are the advantages to a Class A amp & what are the trade offs?
The old school answer of course, was that Class A has lower distortion through the zero volt crossing region. How audible that is anymore though.... I don't know.
What are the advantages to a Class A amp & what are the trade offs?
+1 testpilotWhile Class A has it's fans, there is a lot more that goes into the design of an amplifier besides the heat and power wrecking that it does! The truth is you need to hear for yourself on your own speakers to tell if it is worth the hea...
Happy with Furman Power Conditioner
Hi Doug, Glad to know my link helped you, among with others who also gave the strip the thumbs up. https://inatinear.blogspot.com/2019/04/power-management-for-frugal-audiophiles.html
Preamps... understanding volume...
I was typing from a bar, so couldn’t put a lot of detail. The simplest active preamps I know of are perhaps the Conrad Johnson PV10s, but they have a lot of similarities with others. The structure is something like this:Input --> Source selecto...
Preamps... understanding volume...
Ozzy is right.  It may help to understand that usually the first stage the signal sees is a high impedance, fixed gain stage. For historical reasons, this gain is often way more than needed. The volume knob comes after.
Why I'm going to CanJam Socal
I looked around at Periodic Audio’s site. Lots of plots, but the waterfall shows a lot of ringing around 5kHz for their designs. I have no way of comparing this to other IEM’s, but it’s curious. Do listeners feel they have lots of "air" ??
2000-2500 USD budget for an integrated amplifier. Do amplifiers sound the same? :)
I think all of this theory is pretty useless at this stage. It reminds me a great deal of a friend who spent 2 years fantasizing about buying a Harley. I kept telling him to get his license and buy any motorcycle first, so he'd have some time in t...
panlar or dynamic headphones?
What is a panlar? And as for the connections, at least try to look up the manual online. Otherwise, be specific. Best,E
Ground Loop Hum caused by hardwired AC MAINS FILTER - help needed
Wait, so you are saying that the ground loop is happening on a circuit that is not protected by this device??
Why I'm going to CanJam Socal
The truth is while I like headphones, I hardly listen except at work, and for that I really need sealed or IEM's with intrinsic noise blocking.
Why I'm going to CanJam Socal
I'm looking for IEM's in the $350 max range. If I can find better cheaper. Same for sealed over the ear cans for work.I'm also going to look for heapdhone amps, but mainly to listen. I want to see if I can recreate the magic I heard from Woo amps ...
Anthem AVM 60 vs Classe SSP 800
Have you thought of the MRX 520 ?? Same preamp, but no balanced out.
Anyone here with Magico A3 driven by Bel Canto Ref600's?
I like class d a great deal, but buddy, have you heard a Luxman???  Yummmmm

To be more practical, when picking an integrated you should listen to it with your speakers. Some interactions are more complicated than others.
