Time to buy a class D amp? Try an ICEpower based model. I find them quite warm sounding. The equal of some Parasound linear amps, and the better of some megabuck class A amps to my ears. I'd ignore the class though, just go by what you hear.
Magnepan Sweet Spot Do you have any diffusion between them?
The one tweak most Focals need ... Hey @johnsonwu I agree with you about the caps, but sometimes DCR in a coil is a good thing, as it can be part of a baffle step compensation. Don't go reducing that without understanding the circuit. Especially in shunts like Zobel or notch filte...
The one tweak most Focals need ... I guess if I could describe the Mundorf MKP by comparison to Focal/Solen it is darker but a lot smoother. The EVO scintillates. Adds a lot of color saturation at the mid/top end which is just not natural to my ears. That + the way those inverted d...
The one tweak most Focals need ... Hey @auxinput I so don't like Mundorf's top end caps at all, that's why I didn't suggest them, especially not with Focal's tweeter behavior. Then of course there is the physical size ...
The one tweak most Focals need ... Hey @audioman58 I like Clarity a great deal and the Audyn Copper line a lot also. However in this particular case, I think you'd be amazed at how much better Mundorf MKP's are to Focal's default. Still, yeah, Clarity and Audyn is better. Audyn, lik...
What Shunyata and Furman (SMP) Have in common - Inductance! I suggest if you don’t like my blog you go write your own. That's kind of how the Internet works. Erik
Marantz Receiver Bad HDMI Hey @caphill Thanks for the help. I'm afraid I'm trying to keep costs low, especially since this is essentially a secondary unit. I'm using a Luxman integrated for 2 channel, and need a HT 5.1 decoder, with HDMI switching to add to it. My thoughts...
What Shunyata and Furman (SMP) Have in common - Inductance! Your own link :https://www.mixonline.com/technology/furman-sound-implement-smp-technology-381312basically is spec for spec identical to the description of the multi-stage protection described by Brickwall. Down to the clamping voltages. Now stop
Excellent article in Stereophile As an aside, he is right about fully regulated amps being desirable, and yet unobtainable. In recent memory the closest I've seen were a line from Krell and the Sander's Magtech amps, which are quasi regulated. He claims to have solved the amp reg...
Excellent article in Stereophile Ben makes some pretty serious claims in this article, he claims to have figured out what makes Class A amps sound great, and an inexpensive way to replicate it. I have never heard of any of the technology he discusses. It's 27 years later. Anyone ...
Next Gen Speaker Material - Textreme True, but the replies about it becoming available soon are from this week.
What Shunyata and Furman (SMP) Have in common - Inductance! You can’t lump all Furman products together anymore than you can McIntosh and PS Audio. Some use series mode protection, and some use plain old MOVs. You are misreading the article if you think that all Furman surge suppressors use MOV's. That's'...
The one tweak most Focals need ... I'm a little surprised! I thought CSA's ran a little larger than Mundorfs. Do let us know! Erik
Marantz Receiver Bad HDMI I don't know how Marantz is, I just know I had an Onkyo used as a HT pre and it was not very good sounding, very much sounded like the Emotiva at the time. Thin and lifeless digital reproduction. I got rid of them both and stuck with a Theta Casan... |
