Which combination of components (Streamer, DAC, Preamp, Amp, etc.) are most future-proof? DAC’s have come a long ways since their introduction and in my mind have really improved the quality of CD reproduction. So to me they’re a lot more stable now than in the past. The height of instability is in the streamer software, and integratio...
USB noise filter, jitterbug or ifi USB jitter reducing devices are not for reducing jitter from a memory stick to the DAC, but from a PC to a DAC. The only other benefit, ground loop reduction, isn’t really an issue in an attached memory stick. Best,E
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think AMTs, not true ribbons. Note though that they are cuts, not boosts. The point of the post was the speaker + room gain creates a lot more bass than we think. Also, don't discount the bass traps I have. :) It would be a much more complicated picture...
Looking for some more detail oriented / brighter sounding power cords. So you absolutely won't consider your ICs or speaker cables instead?
Upgrade advice from Parasound P5/A23 combo to an integrated amp solution? I had kind of the same setup. I had the P7 and A21. I upgraded to a Luxman and have been deliriously happy in the sound quality. I went from Parasound to Class D to Luxman. The first two were, for me, equivalent, except in non-audible parameters ...
It pays to measure ... Hey @mike_in_nc Sorry, my friend, but sadly, I have the AVM 50, not the 50V, nor the 50-ARC. Mine lacks the internal DSP power needed. The issue I’m having is with the manual crossover settings. Setting the center speaker to small, and setting the...
The Modern DAC killed High Resolution Music - has Stereophile proven it? Wadia is long gone and so is the need for oversampling DAC’s. @lalitk Right, but the specific point I was trying to make here was that Wadia was the first company I knew of that did advanced upsampling, and quantization errors would go along with ...
thinking to buy Luxman M900u mono , what other similar amps should i look? Ayre man, Ayre! :) Love my Luxman 509, but if ever there was an amp I might afford to trade to it would be Ayre or D’Agostino, the latter sounding much more like the Luxman that it is hard for me to pull the coin out for. Ayre, like Pass, in my mi...
The Modern DAC killed High Resolution Music - has Stereophile proven it? once said that the reason why hi-res files sounded better several years ago was that the DACs of the day had "quantization errors" and by processing a hi-res file, those errors were typically way beyond the upper limit of our hearing, @ejr1953...
The Modern DAC killed High Resolution Music - has Stereophile proven it? Mr. Frugal Put that on my tombstone. seems to be stuck inside a box....he has been trying for so long to convince us that high resolution music no longer seemed to be as important. @lalitk The last two words are key to my point. Not "as i...
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think treating the room instead of trying to compensate the bad room with a limited speaker is the path to long term satisfaction ime I agree.
The Modern DAC killed High Resolution Music - has Stereophile proven it? To defend my thesis a little more, even if we personally like High Rez music above all others, it always faced an uphill battle. Even lossless music has barely gone mainstream. MQA 20 years ago would have seemed like a godsend, but now, with bette...
The Modern DAC killed High Resolution Music - has Stereophile proven it? @mahler123 That’s a different situation. MP3 as we know is lossy, but put it another way, what if some one had a lossy compression algorithm which sounded 90% as good as a high rez download, for 1/10th the cost? Would that not alter the market and...
Luxman vs Esoteric I'm afraid I've only heard Esoteric in hotel rooms and I was not moved.I am a big Luxman fanboy and currently own an integrated. The characteristics which myself and reviewers usually touch on in a liquid midrange with balanced extension in the ba...
The Modern DAC killed High Resolution Music - has Stereophile proven it? R U suggesting that a DAC is selective (so to speak) in what it will play well? Not selective. I don't think that DAC's choose to perform better, but what if jitter was worse with Redbook? What if the side-effect of better clocks and better DAC c... |
