Large speakers plus EQ, what have you done? @mashif - Thanks for the follow up. Just because I focused on large speakers with EQ doesn't mean I wanted to discourage anyone from also using room treatments. Effectively dampening the mid-treble energy in a room can bring out the bass.
How do you decide what to listen to? Same old stuff? Listen to a great human based radio station like Jazz FM 91
What is the advantage of being able to select the MONO button? There are also issues with how sounds cancel coming from 2 speakers vs. 1 due to head related effects. The ideal playback for mono recordings really is just 1 speaker, or two speakers right next to each other.
My high pass filter experiment and a couple of questions A single capacitor can be an effective high pass filter. Combined with port plugging makes it easier to raise the subwoofer Hz, something many who have resisted found irresistible after trying. :) YMMV.
My high pass filter experiment and a couple of questions only going by the posts I read here on A’gon, I was getting the impression that the going thing now-a-days was to augment full range speakers with a pair of subs? While true for many, for the most part I find these approaches barely scratch ...
My high pass filter experiment and a couple of questions I remember that back then the conventional wisdom seemed to dictate that if one wanted to use a sub for low bass, the logical choice for speakers would be "book shelf’s" as there would be less overlap of bass frequencies. That was the way it was ...
My high pass filter experiment and a couple of questions Oh man, the M&K high pass filter!! That brings me back. M&K was a major proponent of the satellite/subwoofer movement and I think their targets were more or less adopted by THX. Sealed speaker that goes down to 80 Hz (the S-1B for instanc...
The end of physical media is neigh Related, but a tangent, is the way AI is taking over our listening. Driving in my car it is impossible to ask for U2. Google keeps hearing it as Youtube and damned if I can specify "Play the irish band U2" Alexa for instance can’t hear "Halie Lo...
The end of physical media is neigh I can’t deny the convenience of streaming. The problem I have is that we are at the mercy of whatever the streaming companies want to have in their library at the time, which is not a cultural or artistic decision, it’s based on negotiations which...
Music for Working Creatively – I need your help! I like Yo Yo Ma but got to the point where I feel I can hear him more than the music. Try Brandenburg Concertos as well as anything related to ancient music.
Large speakers plus EQ, what have you done? Hi @toddalin - Every passive crossover is an EQ, but that’s really not what I wanted to discuss especially as most hobbyists aren’t going to mod anything about their passive crossovers. While we can, generally, adjust the speaker to the room to m...
2-way design vs. 3-way design means ? Wow. East vs. West coast sound is the answer to JBL ve Fritz. 2 or 3 way have nothing to do with it. A 3 way, properly executed, may have better off axis and dynamic range. The problems all 2 ways suffer from include having to stress the twee...
Large speakers plus EQ, what have you done? @p59teitel - Good to hear, sounds as if you had very few room issues to deal with. Lucky you!
DH Labs @evelyn1 - Yes, I should have mentioned that these are unbranded DH labs cables. Extremely good IC’s though the single wire construction makes them a little brittle. Definitely not for professional use. Neutrik has silver XLR connectors I have us...
Test tones through Qobuz, is this possible? I ripped a CD from my OmniMic, but I believe you can get some from the Room EQ Wizard forums. |
