Bought some 14/2 “speaker wire” from Home Depot Don't use solder for high current connections. Cold weld/crimp. :-) Otherwise, here's what I have observed:Fancy cable only shows us that a lot of amps are more impedance sensitive than we think they are. At best, their effect on the listening ex...
Does speaker-level input to sub by pass its electronics? Um, no, and if you did bypass them you'd end up with no signal. Besides, the servo itself acts to reduce distortion, so no idea what it is you are trying to accomplish here. Best,E
smaller speakers for critical listening? IMHO: What small speakers do best is not mess up the bass. Anytime we try to get deep into the bottom 2 octaves of response the room interactions can be so detrimental as to make critical listening impossible. That and the small baffle width which...
Are there any bookshelf speakers that sound good on a bookshelf? There are 2 differences between a true bookshelf and a 2-way standmount. 1 - Efficiency2 - Bass A true bookshelf is more efficient and has less bass output as measured anechoically, but when pushed up against the wall has better balance. So, assum...
Flat screen between speakers, again. Sure, but heavy curtains work fine too. While shopping, put your ear up to them, and you’ll hear the better one’s. Also, push the panel as far back as you can. If there’s any room behind it, like say 6" or more, you would not be wrong to treat tha...
Why so obsessed with bass? very very few mains will put out full volume 20 hz bass at the listening positionWell, depends what you mean, but room gain is quite powerful. Take a look at what my two-way speakers with a 6.5" woofer can do:https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot....
Why so obsessed with bass? This topic comes up so many times a week I wrote a blog post about it:https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2020/04/how-to-not-buy-subwoofer.htmlBest,Erik
Does anyone do off-axis listening as well as Magicos? @chrissain Yes, yes they do! And honestly in my mind Magico and Revel trade blows with various qualities. It's very worthwhile to audition both.
My pet peeve: "revealing" speakers As I've posted in many other threads, recording engineers, equipment, speakers, all are so different, and trendy, the idea of getting perfectly accurate reproduction is impossible. The best we can do is pick a sound which bowls down the middle of ...
My pet peeve: "revealing" speakers This thread has actually changed my goals from assembling "revealing" equipment to "sounds right to me" equipment, If I can help one person get to their happy place, then I've done my duty. :) Glad you found it useful, @site7000
Luxman 590axii vs Pass Labs int 60 The tone controls in the Luxman are fabulous.
No one nicer than Cardas @ebmUrban Dictionary Duuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeede!!!
Room Acoustics With Vaulted Ceiling @cal3713 That sounds whiny and terribly sensitive. I thought we were supposed to toughen up and take it?? I made a 1 sentence quip, which is actually very funny, if you had seen the history of Miller following me along from thread to thread and an...
Acoustic panels: ATS vs GIK This is interesting, as I've been comparing GIK to ASC and GIK was so much less expensive. I'm looking at doing an entire listening room next year so price matters right now. :)
Acoustic panels: ATS vs GIK That's interesting! Go for what you can get quicker/cheaper, assuming the absorption coefficients are similar. I'm about to need an entire room fulll, so I"ll keep this in mind. I have to say though, the GIK soffit traps are amazing! If you have ... |
