Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
Treat your room appropriately first. Many full range owners who are looking for more bass find this solves their problem so much they no longer consider a sub.
DSP TO TAME THE BASS IN HARBETH SPEAKERS
You know, you don't need DSP per se for this.  The Schiit Loki would probably work for you too, without an A/D , D/A conversion step. Proper room treatment though is always good.
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
That's why, in my opinion, the preferred starting point is the loudspeaker, Well, if you want a loudspeaker that is not demanding of both amplifier and the room, this seems to be the logical, if not canonical solution. Best,E
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
Hi Duke, @audiokinesis Sorry, what i meant was, you raised some alternate hypothesis about what I have heard in the past and what the proper attribution is.  Sadly I can neither go back in time, and measure, nor would it be easy to go forward and ...
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
Hi Duke,@audiokinesis Thanks so much for the thoughtful engagement.  I have learned a great deal already.  In a way I think that this will have to remain purely theoretical for me for a while.  It's like lung cancer and trying to figure out which ...
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
Hi Duke,I can't say I can refute your claim.  To do this I'd have to do controlled experimental testing to find out if the issue I'm having is excess reverb or excess early reflections.  This is where having a simulation tool would be more useful....
Which media player for lossless music
Personally, I've tried JRiver and own MediaMonkey lifetime licenses and I much prefer Roon. The user interface in Roon is made to actually play music, while JRiver and MM feel like they want to overwhelm you with options and data. I now only use M...
Covering a TV behind your speakers?
Funny thing, @cat_doormanI always say that the apparent sound stage is limited in the same dimension as the room treatment. If you want better depth, treat behind the speakers and behind the listener. Want more width? Treat the sides. Height.... s...
Have you changed your mind about a brand? Was it you, or them?
I had an Onkyo HT processor for a week, same for Emotiva. Same super thin sound.  Don't ask me why, but talk about a serious let down.
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
Based on conversations with acousticians, it is much easier to fix the room with acoustic treatments than it is to fix the room AND the loudspeakers at the same time. I would never argue otherwise.
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
Ime there seems to be a "sweet spot" as far as how loud the reverberant sound is relative to the direct sound. The larger the room (the longer the time delay before the "center of gravity" of the reflections), the louder the reverberant energy...
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
@audiokinesisThe problem with a room acoustic approach which focuses on RT60 is that it does not target those reflections which are most likely to be detrimental (the early ones), but instead it has a heightened effect on the beneficial later refl...
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
For those who are curious, RT60 is the measure of reverberation time.  It answers "when does the signal decay 60 dB." and can be measured at different frequencies. So an RT60 of 20 mSeconds at 1 kHz means that a 1 kHz signal will take 20 milliseco...
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
Therefore in my opinion we want to minimize the early reflections but encourage the late ones. @audiokinesis Well, hmmmmm, I think in the context of what you posted above this makes relative sense, but don't most listening rooms have too long of...
Have you changed your mind about a brand? Was it you, or them?
I think about the B&W move akin to the salt-fat-sugar approach to food. Get their attention and hook them with primal urges. (Only at home to they get fatigued and wonder what's wrong.) And I really don't mind any company coloring the soun...
