Whats on your turntable tonight?
I just got several new records in the mail today.I will be auditioning some of them tonight as follows:Benjamin Britten: "War Requiem" Rattle/City of Birmingham/CBSO Chorus/Boys of Christ Church Oxford/Robert Tear/Thomas Allen/Eliz. Soderstrom. EM...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Please excuse my spelling error. Spell check is a real pain sometimes. I frequently have to correct the "correction".Rushton: I rather like the one with "she that has good eyes has also good thighs" one too. Incredibly funny but at the same time w...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
How true Rushton, and I know you have the right stuff.Just installed the Eichmann bullets on my new DIY tonearm cable.Isn't it incredible how sensitive that tiny phono signal is? The Eichmanns added significantly more coherence, micro and macro dyna...
VPI HW-19 Upgrade question SAMA or SDS?
What kind of thread do you use? Silk? About how long does it need to be? I need to try this.e
VPI HW-19 Upgrade question SAMA or SDS?
I got the "black" belt recently and I experienced the same thing concerning "PRAT".I have been curious about the silk thread. Is there any problem with the motor pulley shape with a thread? Does it give it more PRAT?
which is better ? MC phono stage or MM+step-up ?
Thanks guys for the advice. I have the Acoustat model 2 which has a nominal load of 6ohms.From what I have read of the Atmos 140watt OTLs it sounds like what I want when I go back to work. I would love to hear them. Whatever I get it, is going to ...

Rageorge: check out Musical Concepts for your Hafler. Also there are others out there that do Hafler mods. Indeed, next to the Dynaco ST70, the Haflers are the most modified amps out there.Says something for the design. Also says something about th...
VPI HW-19 Upgrade question SAMA or SDS?
Correct me if I am wrong, but the SDS controls speed by regulating the power being fed to the motor, thereby not only controlling the speed but preventing voltage fluxuation causing speed differential.Assuming that this is correct, don't both the ne...
which is better ? MC phono stage or MM+step-up ?
Thanks Ralph. I assume you mean not to move it or even touch it? If I left the system turned on,even though there is nothing playing on the TT, would this help in the break in?Once again, thanks for all the great advice and knowledge base.side bar...
VPI HW-19 Upgrade question SAMA or SDS?
Thanks Ferrari. Right now the SDS is out of the question unless I can build one.btw which SDS? I assume the newer version is nicer, but will you get the same results for the older and much cheaper version.Recession think has taken hold of my brain...
Acoustat model 22/2200
My thinking is with the Acoustats is that they put out only as good as they are given. The best I ever heard was a set of 2+2 with ARC tube gear. That was back in the 80s. I don't have a tube amp but that is the way to go. I hear that the ultimate...

I have constructed the new tonearm cable using a Cardas DIN plug and .28guage XLO triple shielded wire.It is less than .5 meter long. The wire fit perfectly in the DIN plug. The sound: Sound floor is lower.High transients are more apparent.Bass seem...
VPI HW-19 Upgrade question SAMA or SDS?
I have a HMW19 jr with the sorbothane pucks. I have been experimenting with the suspension (of which there is very little)by putting hardened steel cam follower shims from my old Suzuki 750 on top of the sorbothane. The shims are VERY hard and seem...
Great systems in butt-ugly rooms
Tony, all I can say is that is so cool and wonderful. Any time magic can happen with music is a wonderful thing.e
Great systems in butt-ugly rooms
I feel very fotunate to have a great listening room.Of course it is a recession/deco man cave ,complete with acoustic treatment made from old temperpedic mattress cover (bass traps),mostly empty(now)wine rack which acts as a diffuser,NOS sofa (pur...
