Upgrade from TW Acustic Raven AC-3 to what?
I'd like to throw my 2 cents into this conversation. I own the Raven one that I have tweaked out quite a bit. And based on what it sounded like from when i first got it (which was very good) to where it is now is a rather large improvement.I think...
What was your most engaging audio experiance
The first time I ever heard Quad ESL-63 USA in a computer and audio store here in NYC. I had really just come in to have my Mac SE fixed (that tells you it was long ago). I spied the Quads and asked if those were electrostats, and could I hear the...
subwoofers and panels don't mix
What about the Wilson Benesch Torus "infrasonic generator?"I have yet to hear them, but from what I understand the push pull design and extremely low mass (half an ounce) of the 18" driver supposedly makes it extremely fast, and would seem like a ...
Can I Use One Channel Of A Stereo Power Amp?
Use a dummy load on the unused channel.
Tinnitus - do you have ringing in the ears?
There is a doctor here in NY that has developed a treatment whereby they determine the frequency of the tone, then generate that tone 5 degree out of phase for something like 30 seconds, then 5 more degrees out of phase for 20 seconds, continuing ...
What is the chain of importance in analog system ?
I think one also needs to look at the upgrade path as well as sonic order of merit. Having an great table or arm to be the foundation for even a modest cartridge will yield excellent results. While I was waiting for my Strain Gauge cart to be deli...
Low volume kind to low frequency?
I would consider a biamped monitor/sub type system. This way you can turn up the sub for fullness at low to mid volumes. I used to have my setup this way, with a remote controlled amp feeding the subs. It was great to be able to tailor the bass pe...
New Beatles remasters
Bluray requires using the D/A of the bluray player, while downloading flac or wav files can be played directly into a high quality D/A. I have the PS Audio perfectwave dac and have compared the same song in 44.1 vs. 24/96. Obviously the 24/96 was ...
Turntable in 20 K$ price range - Design & Music
I say get a 12K table and an 8K Halcyonics active vibration platform to put below it.I have my Raven One on a Halcyonics, and after hearing it I think more tables should include active vibration isolation.TT weights has just come out with an amazi...
Anyone Heard the New Soundsmith Sussurro Cartridge
Dodge - If you want to hear the Strain Gauge in another system in New York City, let me know. The system I demo (and sell) it in is a full range system, and perhaps you might be better able to hear it's unique qualities.I have not yet heard the Su...
New Beatles remasters
While the new remasterings are exciting, the fact that they are not available for high res download (96 or 192K) is a huge let down, for me anyway. My credit card will stay firmly tucked away on this one. And while a bluray release would be intere...
Why so few high end line arrays?
I too had been advised of all the combing when I started considering line sources, but physics aside, my ears tell me something else.I had a chance to hear a used pair of Scaena 3.2's today that were for sale. I have heard the 3.2 in various versi...
Just got the PS Audio Perfectwav DAC -- Amazing
I have played my PWD with and without a preamp. With a preamp, I can hear the real magic happening when I bring the DAC up to full volume. Below that sounds excellent, but not quite as magic.Direct was excellent as well, and perhaps wider and more...
Zero Feedback: Atmasphere vs. BAT
I just wanted to jump in and add a few thoughts, being a 20+ year Atma-sphere user (and now a dealer). The OTL impedance matching issue with speakers is not as critical as one might think. I am currently using a 4 ohm speaker (with MA-1's) with the...
How loud do you like to play your music?
I listen on average about 80-85 db, with peaks close to 90.I thought this was rather low, but it seems people lower than that.
