Help Me Justify Recent MMF7 purchase
Audiofeil, ok maybe I exaggerated a little. I'll take my Sota over the mmf any day. However, with proper set-up and a nice cartridge it should impress many a listener. I was trying to stress that it is a good table and deserves a fair chance. It i...
Thinking about moving to a tube pre - suggestions.
Thorman, that piece would sound great in almost any system!!!
speakers for my yamaha rx-v1700
That 335 watts is a "bull___t" rating by Yamaha. Drive five 2 ohm speakers trying to get 335 watts out of each channel and you'll blow the receiver. It will have a stroke running five 4ohm speakers at 1/2 volume. For a pair, you should be ok with ...
speakers for my yamaha rx-v1700
If you are running 5.1, make sure you stick with a speaker that stays above 6ohms at all times. Yamahas don't like low impedance.

An Audio Research will crush all of those. A vintage 2C or 6B with a tubed phono stage is amazing! My personal favorites are Anthem or an MFA (if you can find one).

You really need to have it set up properly before you can make any judgements. I wouldn't knock the mmf. It's a great unit and with the proper cartridge can keep up with the best. Do you have a scale and geo disc or protractor?I spent many years w...
High efficient speakers
My Coincidents are great.1 question: 14-16" deep? Are you putting them against a rear wall? If so, you have one option only-vintage klipsch
Affordable Tubes for Anthem Pre 2L
The advantage of 6922's is that they last a long time, 10,000 hours. To get rid of some of the microphonics you could try tube dampeners. Even the little rubber rings will help. I'd stay away from the new mullard remakes out there. I just saw the ...

basement renovation - ideas?
Think of drywall as another bass panel...it shakes. If the room is mainly for sound, consider studs every 12 inches instead of 16", screw and glue 1/2" plywood up first, then put drywall over that with screws and glue. Even using double sheets of d...
Need some advising
Mapleshade stuff is nice but wayyy pricey. New Jolida or ASL goes for less.
Non-functioning Tweeter.
These are CV's, tweeters are worth about 50 cents. Find the impedance and efficiency and buy a pair from partsexpress for $3 each.
first time vinyl
Beo's are easy but limited with cartridge choices from what I'm told. For a newbie, I'd suggest something simple and clean like a music hall or if buying used, get it locally. Many great used tables like Thorens and Sota are out there but setting ...
