help me choose speakers..Totem B&W KEF Dali You have to drag your 1700 to each shop with you! It's not fair to compare an Integra to a Mac.
Tube Life: 6SN7, 6DJ8, 12AT7 et al. Most readings have nothing to do with a % over new. A new 12ax7 will read 90 on my SICO tester while a new EL34 will only ready 80. It's all relative. This 102 probably has nothing to do with 102% of life. Most 12ax7's will last 5000 hours6dj8's us...
Class A Power Amp Degredation 1-If you are going away, definitely shut off the system. It may take an hour or two to get back up to where you will like it when getting home.2-Having owned many class A amps, I'd state very confidently that they don't wear out faster as long as ...
Need sub The little yamaha's do a nice job for less than $100. A little bigger/uglier are Cerwin Vega's. If you can push your budget a little, find a HSU for $250 to $300.
Cartridge Setup w/Geodisc by MoFi Get a scale too and you should be pretty good.
Parasound vs B&K vs Acurus Personally, I found the Acurus quite harsh. The other choices won't be louder but quantity isn't everything.
Can my speakers be connected to my TV? The best you can do is powered speakers like cambridge or good computer speakers. But, only if you have speaker outputs in the back of the TV.
Updating a 1991 Sony ES receiver Personally, I like Denon or Newer Sony ES over Onkyo. Dolby pro logic II is a much improved feature over old DPL. Keep in you budget a new center channel. If you can match your center to the R&L, it will make a world of difference.
Help VPI turntable hummmmmmm Grounding the unit to other than the phono stage may help? Ground it to your pre or even to a screw on the plate cover on the wall plug? Are you using a high gain cartridge with a low gain input? Is this hum as soon you you switch to phono on the p...
Good cartridge for playing rock I've got a similar set-up. What is your budget? I'd say for a budget unit, shure 97 (GRIMACE where are you?). Stepping up, I'd say Goldring 1042gx. Clearaudio doesn't have the "bite" that a rocker is looking for. Personally, I'm not a Bluepoint fa...
Remote control from the next room Howard, I've got enough niles gear to set up many systems. I really need to unload some of it. I'll be happy to put together a set-up for your needs with lots of expansion if you need. My whole house is wired and this is what's left over (IR eyes,...
Question on Fisher 500C Running the whole signal through the sub crossover will probably degrade the sound a little. If you could run the sub from the pre out and run the sats from the R&L outs it may sound better. You would then just need to play with the crossover ...
Buying new pre-amp Crown has always been more of a professional product. A 37 year old audiophile piece such as AR or Marantz will kill it. You really need to borrow a pre from someone or a local shop and see for yourself. You do know that in the last 37 years, they ...
Thinking about moving to a tube pre - suggestions. I especially love the tube phono stage.
High efficient speakers Since your space is tight, a medium sized Klipsch may work better. Cornwalls are much more compact than LaScalas or Khorns but still extremely efficient and won't mind the rear wall. |
