Velodyne sub hookup I agree, you had the Y's to bypass the velo crossover. Won't hurt to try it the other way. You may get a little less bass?
tube info needed Cool group to roll with. EL34 vs 6550 vs 6sn7s could make a lot of fun. They are all good tubes (as long as they test well). You can buy better of any of these if you really want but why? Get a feel for them first. Keep in mind that you will proba...
Have 6 channel amp what's next ? If you can bi-wire/bi-amp your center channel, that would be awesome. Otherwise, the 6th channel will not be used. Make sure that you don't have a signal into it if it's not hooked up to a speaker. You will have to get a pre/pro with or without a t...
Class A Amp Most class A amps go to class A/B after 20-60 watts. They simply can't dissipate that much power when idle. I'd go with a moscode bridged mono.
Pass, Bryston, Audio Research, or McIntosh? There's a 500 wpc mac for sale on Pittsburgh's craigslist. It is for real. The sellor is honest. He is selling that, a c33 pre and mac speakers for $4400. The amp alone is worth $2500 minimum. Check it out. I'll help locally if you need.
postal Money order and fraud? Hey, Did you know you can STOP PAYMENT on postal money orders?Go for it. That'll get his attention. It's a long hard process but who cares.
recommend excellent cassette for playback only? I'll take $125 for my Teac 850?
turntable newbie: need advice for better sound Grimace, I knew you couldn't stay out of a shure posting! I still have my M91 for emergencies...
So where from here? Send the MH gear to chris johnson at partsconnexion for mods. It is amazing what he can do. The maverick will go to a whole new level. For the 25.2, you could look at upgrades but I'd be tempted to just sell it and go for a Mambo, class A rated.
Preference for separate phono stages? Old AR pre-amps with phono are amazing (ie 6C). However, that is from the true old vinyl days. In the 80's & 90's most phono stages were just an afterthought. The phono stage in a cambridge 640 phono is way better than the internal phono stage...
turntable newbie: need advice for better sound How are you changing the weight? You truly need a scale. Also, a tiny bubble level for $5 will help. Otherwise, you are probably at the limits of the M97. It's nice but definitely not high end or even mid range. Look at some in the 2-3 hundred ran...
recommend excellent cassette for playback only? My Dragon took about 6 months and $850 for the rebuild. However, you need to keep in mind that many tapes made on your dragon won't sound as good on some other decks. I have a dual well Teac W-850R if you are interested. It was $825 new but wayyyy...
Cambridge - 540A /640A ver. 2 Integrated Amplifier From what I know, there is no comparison between the 540 and 640. Completely different components and build. Not to knock the 540 but I'll bet the 640 will crush it.
PrePro or Integrated Receiver 4 Family Ent Center I just set up my brother's system. His wife didn't want to learn so I showed his 7 year old how to run it. Keep it simple with a little remote for the kids. From experience, I'd run the whole house system completely independently. Buy a nice little...
