Speakers with outboard cross-overs? Nelson Reed subs have the crossovers built in. However, they are mazingly adjustable and even bypassable. Awesome subs if you can find them.
Line level or speaker level, scientific reasons? ? Using speaker level to the sub then to the mains is an extra drain on the amp and the filters may keep things from blending well.I like using line level better. This allows me to use all 17 watts to my mains and a good quality sub/sub amp combo. I...
CAL's Aria mk III vs SONY's XA777ES I loved my CAL Alpha but was amazed when a simple little Audio Alchemy 3.0 came along. The CAL is very nice but pricey and can be tempermental. The AA was abusable and simple. My vote for AA. Sony shouldn't even be in the same ballpark.
monster rca cable upgrading cables issues Kimber PBJ are inexpensive and nice or nordost black knight/solar wind.
6SN7 Plate Voltage Yes, 450 is correct
What goes where? 1-you really should have the amp into a power strip for protection.2-same for the TV3-Yes, the will interfere with one another if in the same outlet. I would use 2 power strips and plug the amp and tv into seperate strips. If you get ground loop h...
I need some clarity Solar winds should help. You don't have to blow your budget on telefunkens. I really like golden dragon tubes as well as svetlana, don't rule out any old stock 6922s. Sovtek are crap. Switching to the aragon or classe will still leave you with a s...
red light on classe 30 preamp? Hi,My 30 is green in mute and red when playing-weird that it is this way. Oh well, I love it. If you have a fax #, I'll be happy to copy my manual on monday and fax it or even mail it to you.Emeryemfoods@yahoo.com
Lower End Tube Testers: which are worthwhile I love my SICO (superior instruments co). It doesn't do what my b&k did but is much easier and quicker to use. All I need to test for is tube strenght and shorts. I'm not worried about matching for transconductance......
tube pre-amp feedback... Try to isolate the pre better. Is it sitting on top of other gear? Tubes are sensative. Also, what kind of cables are you using? You may need to either get better shielded ones or simply run the cables in a way to make sure that interconnects neve...
Tuner vs Satellite Radio After learning what I have, I wouldn't spend the money on an MD in my area (pittsburgh). Very few radio stations use high enought quality equipment to justify a $1000 tuner. Everyone here thought that WQED was superb. Well, I got the "grand tour" ...
Outlaw 1050 or Kenwood 6070? Help You answered it yourself: Quality vs quantity. The outlaw has more than enough features to keep you happy. What about another Denon if you like it so much?
Feedback/Suggestions on some of my choices I like your taste in equipment. The sony may be a good piece, however it won't fit in with what you are buying. Don't do it. Use the extra money for a bigger tv.
B&W N805's hump in the upper bass. What to expect? Many manufacturers of monitors/smaller speakers engineer a slight "hump" in the upper bass. They do this trying to compensate for a lack of the lower frequencies that only a 10, 15 or 18" woofer can produce. It shouldn't be noticable as long as yo...
Tubes with Thiel CS-3.6's? has anyone had success? Be careful about resistance. The 3.6 tend to drop well below 4 ohms and are not too efficient. You should have a tube amp with 2 ohm taps and a fair amount of power. You could kill a 50 watt tube amp with 4 ohm taps if you listen long/hard/loud. |
