Ok this will be a good thread.
Your system will always be limited by the weakest link. Doesn't matter if it is the source, speakers, amp or cables. A $10,000 system will still sound like garbage if one of the main components is a $99 piece of _____. ie, what would a Jadis syste...
Whats wrong?
Everything is wrong!1-scrap the equalizer2-get at least mediocre cables/interconnects. 12-14 gague for the speaker cable.3-anything will sound better than the bose; however, the maggies are quite hard to make sound great. They have a very narrow s...
B&W N805 vs. Revel M20
I've heard both on a Levenson system. Why pay the price of the M20s and have to spend 200 hours breaking them in? If you have tube gear, think of the cost let alone the time. For that reason alone, I like the 805-that is an unbiased, general opini...
And What Did You Get Your Wife For Christmas?
Interior Decorator was hired to put new curtains in the house. The appointment with the decorator on 12/30 is the surprise.
Nondirectional & Inaudible Bass: What Frequencies?
Different theory. My room is 15 x 25 feet with high ceilings. Instead of stereo subs, I am crossing everything over at 100hz and have 1 sub in the front and 1 in the rear. With a lot of furnishings in the room, the bass just wasn't even throughout...
What do your kids see?
My 3 year old can play a cd or dvd! She learned how to open the drawer and push play. The rest turns on automatically. Spoiled, huh?
Receiver recommendations?
I've had nothing but grief from receivers. Too much stuffed into one box. Try the Marantz 550 pre-amp for about $250 or a similar Rotel. You can pick up a 5 channel amp for about the same (rotel 30 x 6?).Otherwise, try www.tsto.com and get a maran...
Shipping tube amps to Europe. What company to use?
US priority mail is much cheaper. However, know that it is a pain in the butt to file claims or collect on them. They will pay eventually but.....I just shipped to Italy and it sucked.
CAL Sigma tube DAC question....
I got rid of my CAL Alpha for an Audio Alchemy 3.0 and love it. It was less hassel, very clean and no tubes. The Alpha constantly searched for input if I was using a different source than digital. Also, getting up off my butt to chose toslink/coax...
Need Help on Dedicated Listening Room
If you don't upgrade your speakers, $2000 is fine for a nice integrated and cd if you buy used. You may even get into something like the classe integrated with cd. Then, just blow $150 on a rotel tuner. You won't even spend much on cables if you g...
Looking to make a change, need advice
"if it ain't broke, don't fix it"Why comprimise by getting a hybrid of totally different design? Also, by going to less pieces, you limit flexibility, uprgradeabiliy (is this a word?) and will have less ability to "roll tubes".
Very tube-friendly monitor speakers?
I own coincident speakers and love them. The triumphs retail for about $1199.
Can "Mullard" tubes be labeled as RCA, GE, etc?
They will always say "made in Great Brittain" if they are mullards.
Which components knocked you out on first listen?

HELP: Subwoofer for music
I cured my problem 2 ways: I got a Janis sub amp/crossover and a passive sub which is installed between the pre and amp. It integrates better than any powered sub I've heard. It works wonders plus alleviates the strain on my SET amp.I have also pl...
