need help deciding on a new ht reciever
That's a big room. You should really consider seperates. Most pre/pro's will sound better than similar priced receivers. This will allow you to use any amps you want and you can alway get any old amp/receiver for $25 at a garage sale to power the ...
My "Hummer" is driving me nuts
Ground Loop Hum most likely.Unplug everything but the amp, power it up and listen for hum. If no hum, great! Continue by plugging in and turning on each component 1 at a time until the hum appears. Once you find the culpret, you can either deal wi...
What do you think of the pre section of Denon 3802
Use the denon remote to run the B&K? I did this with my Anthem remote that my family liked to run my Classe. The Anthem is a full learning remote with programmable keys.
Tube Amplifier for Maggies
I tried 17 watt triodes with Maggie 10.1's and got nowhere! The sound simply broke up at even moderate volumes. I would suggest no less than 90 watts just to get by with maggies. Even then, minor amounts of bass will rob all the power.
How much have sub-woofers changed over the years?
I'm running a velodyne ULD-15, 400 watt servo with brand new soliloquys and couldn't be happier. All that has changed over the years is that Velodynes have gained more wattage and performance for the money. A used sub for probably 1/3 the price is...
Small tube amp for office suggestions?
Vintage Pilot, Scott, Fisher, Heath, Eico...... You can even get a vintage tube receiver.
What other speakers would you consider for this ..
If you like the analogue sound, then why scrap the speakers? Get an external d/a to help the digital sound. Look for something like a CAL or Theta which should warm up the cd sound some?
amp recommendation
The micros are fairly efficient but a little bright. With that in mind, I would lean towards something like Creek or Rotel. 30-50 watts will be plenty. I hope you are using a sub with built in crossover so you don't damage the gallos.
Sonus Faber w/ Sonic Frontiers Power 1 - Impedance
Usually, this would mean burning out your tubes. If you are driving the system hard and not paying attention, you could do more damage to the amp. Your speakers should be fine unless you are at 100% volume when somethings goes....Honestly though, ...
Sonus Faber w/ Sonic Frontiers Power 1 - Impedance
4 ohms! You can cause problems by having speakers hooked up to too high of a tap but you can always use a lower tap.
Please help me get my missing frequencies
Your sub should have 2 inputs: one for full frequency from the pre and one to the equalizer. Read the manual and switch inputs into the sub if you want the sub to perform the EQ. You might be better off letting the pre/pro do the crossover work an...
Turntable Choices
You can get a used Sota in that price range that would make you quite happy!
Review: Shuguang/SuperTNT 845B tube Tweak
I agree with the positive review. However, buyers beware! There is also an "A" series for all shuguang tubes. The A is not as good as the "B". If you see shuguang tubes for wayyyyy under market value, they are probably pushing the A (ie EL34A vs E...
Thiel 7.2 or Revel Studios
Keep 1 fact in mind: Revels take hundreds of hours to break in. Have a lot of patience if they don't sound as good at home as the demo's in the store.
Tube amps for classical music FU29 vs EL34
Your speakers, simply put, are NOT tube friendly. 87db just doesn't cut it. If you want some strong, tight bass at reasonable volumes, you should consider at least 90db speakers if not more.Your EL34 amp is probably 40 watts. To drive your speaker...
