CLASS D- DIY Q Scubidubi...Go to www.hypex.nl for complete info on the UcD modules, and related power supplies. No doubt they are the best bet for DIY, and the modules themselves are arguably the best performing digital audio amps (although this may be a brisk d...
input sensitivity The input sensitivity of the CarverPro ZR1600 that I use can be changed by moving a jumper plug between four positions. 0.316 vrms...common in consumer electronics with low voltage unbalanced outputs.0.775 vrms...most common line-level calibration...
Is a subwoofer 'overkill?' You may be exciting room resonances that were not evident before. If the SW does not have its own equalization circuitry try a Behringer DEQ2496. The RS meter and Rives CD will set you back about $100. For $350 or less the Behringer will do a bett...
input sensitivity An amp with high sensitivity is more prone to noise pickup in the interconnect. I prefer to boost the signals to a good high level before sending them through my (admittedly long) interconnects. However, with good wire and good electronics noise s...
CLASS D- DIY Q Hypex will provide not only the amp module, but also a power supply module and transformer, an optional "soft start" module, and even a wiring harness. You need to comeup with your own chassis and power cord. DIY doesn't get any easier.
Can I measure my tube amp's output? Sure. It is AC, and will only be a few volts while the signal is quite loud, so you may not be able to observe any diference between channels. However, if you feed the identical signal into both amps you can accurately measure gain difference by p...

Amps on Maggie Mye Stands - Bad Idea? Don't get the power transformers too close to any inductors in crossover network.
What are these "SUPERBIT" DVD's? When Microsoft bought out the rights to the HDCD technology the hidden agenda was to apply this resolution enhancement, not to audio CDs (where SACD and DVDA are a better approach) but rather to video discs. Nothing has happened yet.
Do you ever use the balance on your pre amp? .Aball...Since you realize that "some parts of the soundstage will be off center" it should not surprise you that not all lead vocals are centered (although most are). Performers sometimes wander around the stage while singing, and a good audio sy...

Clipping and the pre amp... Gain describes the increase or decrease of an electrical signal. Volume describes loudness of sound. Increased gain will result in greater volume. Real audiophiles say "SPL" instead of "Volume" :-)

Do you ever use the balance on your pre amp? .Aball...On those recordings, perhaps the sound image that you seek to center is not supposed to be centered. Good speakers will produce a "soundstage" with instruments located anywhere between the speakers, and sometimes beyond. But image locatio... |
