MultiChannel too complicated for most... It is not simple or cheap to get a multichannel system set up right, and not all MC discs realize the potential of the media. For music the 5.1 speaker array, designed for movies is not ideal. The 2+2+2 array (see www.222sound.ch) is better. Too b...
Do you think you need a subwoofer? Rauliruegas...I forgot to mention that when I sweep the X/O frequency I am listening to and observing a white noise signal. Music is another story, which, of course, is the reason that I vary the frequency. My ability to sweep the X/O frequency wi...
Do you think you need a subwoofer? Rauliruegas...At first I took the same approach as you, (and everyone else it seems) and I tried to find the a frequency for "best quality sound reproduction". I never seemed to get it right. It took me many years to realize why: there is no one b...
Vinyl Outselling CD Sometimes, when engaged in something like carpentry, or stacking firewood, I hum something nice, like the Mozart horn concerto in E flat. I suppose my humming is the ultimate of low fidelity audio equipment, but I still enjoy the music :-)
Vinyl Outselling CD I think that the idea that only those who use LPs actually appreciate the music, and, as a corollary, listening to LPs makes you a music expert, is absurd. As has been mentioned before, some world renowned musicians use very pedestrian audio equip...
Is HDCD dead? Psacanli...Microsoft wanted the technology to apply to video, or, perhaps, to prevent someone else from doing it.You forget that SACD and DVDA are about multichannel. HDCD can't do that.
Turntable Pre-Echo Sound....? It's easy to tell which is the reason. Watch the LP and see if the "real" sound begins one recolution after the pre-echo. That would be 1.8 seconds for a 33.3 rpm. This has always been my observation, although mag tape print through is also real. ...
Dimmer noise Edesilva...For a recessed ceiling fixture in a one story house the heat distribution would be poor indeed. But for table lamps and the like which are used right next to people the distribution is good. I once (50 years ago) worked in an architectu...
Dimmer noise Edesilva...I don't know the particular brand of dimmer which works for me, but the package it comes in does talk about eliminating interference. You are right about low voltage halogens. I am in the process of having such a system (cable lights) in...
Dimmer noise Edesilva...When I said that the new dimmers which I have bought are quiet I meant with respect to buzz on audio equipment. They must have done something to avoid noise getting on to the power lines.Halogens are just a different kind of incandescen...
Dimmer noise In my experience this was a major problem with dimmers some years ago. New dimmers do not exhibit the problem. Try a new dimmer, and don't buy the cheapest one you can find.
Is there a optimum lenght for power cables? My monoblocks are connected with three foot biwire. Whew! I guess that qualifies as six feet.
why don't they get it? I have a daughter whith a cellar and attic full of old lamps, vases, chairs, and god knows what else, which she picks up at tag sales. No audio equipment. Your urge to collect reminds me of her. Of course, I am not like that. All my things are goo...
Vinyl Outselling CD It is true that the large format liner notes of LPs are nice. What they put in CDs is printed in such small type and often with colored background that I find reading next to impossible. However, DVDA often include video tracks discussing the musi...
What song is your fav.Emmylou cut??? One of the most effective 2-channel LPs played back in a matrix multichannel setup is Judy Collins, Amazing Grace. She sings in a church, with lots of good ambience, and then the congregation joins in all around and behind you. Spooky. At the end,... |
