Phono stage with gain control?
Maybe I missed something, but a phono stage with a gain control is called a preamp.
Cables to top binding posts?
FWIW..Wide flat conductors are best for high frequency. However, unless you are talking RF frequency it doesn't make any difference.
Bose 901...really
Thanks to all who offered encouragement. I suspect that there is a Bose in the past for a lot of audiophiles although some are afraid to admit it! I will report back when the building is complete and the speakers are up and playing.
Bose 901...really
Well, I ordered a pair.Markphd...Exactly. It's for fun, not audiophile listening. That said, I must admit that I have heard some Bose 901 setups that really were good. I think that they require a large room with high ceiling, and an uncluttered fro...
Bose 901...really
The rugged professional Bose speakers are 802. They look a bit like the 901, but are really a different design, and cost just a bit more than half what the 901 costs.

Shadorne...Based on similar pools I have visited, humidity will not be a problem. This is a small exercise pool, 8X20. The building is well ventilated, and has AC for dehumidification. And it is a pool house, not an audio room, so the sound will b...
Do you ...Center Channel?
If your speakers are set up for multichannel, the left and right are too far apart for stereo. With a 2-channel source like a CD you must come up with a center signal/speaker, or be faced with moving speakers around when playing a stereo recording...
Combining different speaker cables for bi-wiring?
Since the high and low frequency drivers are completely different devices, each with its own sonic character, connecting them with different wire is of no concern.
Why do digital cables sound different?
Ar_t...The system I described does have a separate "clock" line. Actually there are three lines, One, Zero, Strobe.1, 0, 1 is a one.0, 1, 1 is a zeroAny other set is invalid..
Why do digital cables sound different?
Ar_t...One interesting experience in my career as a systems engineer on Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles was a visit aboard a 20 year old boat to evaluate the ability of the existing wiring from tube to fire control (as much as 300 feet) to t...
tube amps/low capacitance cables?
That's strange. I would expect high capacitance cables to affect high frequency, not low. A tube amp, with relatively high output impedance at high frequency would be affected more than a low impedance ss amp.Ask the amp manufacturer.
MultiChannel too complicated for most...
Tbg...Many MC discs do not put the listener "in the orchestra" although some people who play or played in an orchestra or chior enjoy such a presentation. I find it particularly appropriate for chamber music where live performances are ideally hel...
MultiChannel too complicated for most...
Tbg...You are quite correct that matrix multichannel from vinyl rarely produced good effect. I think that two reasons are:1...The rear channels were predominantly vertical groove modulation which is noisy.2...Four channels from two is too much to ...
MM to MC back to MM
About schematics...In the good old days the owner's manual always included the schematic. For pro audio equipment this is still true. If I buy the thing I think that I should have knowledge of how it is made without having to open the cover and re...
MultiChannel too complicated for most...
Tbg...With excellent imaging speakers and with precise placement of them in an acoustically treated room a 2-channel system can create the sensation of three-dimensional space. But this is, in the end, only a psychoacoustical trick, and is easily ...
