Hearing Damage over 20khz? Measurements of hearing (eg:20KHz) are based on sine waves. But lower frequency waveforms that are not sinusoidal can have wavefronts with slopes well in excess of the fundamental frequency. I believe that the ear detects wavefront slope. You may ...
Why not horns? So horns sound like Bose 901s. I guess that settles it :-)To trell the truth I like my 901s in my swimming pool room, but they won't get in to my living room.
Best "pseudo" multi channel from 2 ch sources I also like the SST Trinaural Processor. I wrote a review here on Audiogon. With rare exceptions derived rear channels don't work well. IMHO Three (L CTR, RT) with the SST Trinaural Processor is a big improvement over 2 CH, but four or five out of...
Music on DVD vs CD or SACD - any difference? Saru... DVDA is not DSD. Just straightforward 24/96 for multichannel and 24/192 for stereo. (IMHO DSD is all Sony hype). The bandwidth provided by DVDA can be used in different ways. Many DVDA include a lot of video... discussion of the music etc.T...
Music on DVD vs CD or SACD - any difference? DVDA is, IMHO much better than SACD.Are there any Blue Ray audio discs?
Kef Kube equalizer Jedinite24... I have a couple of Bose 901s in my swimming pool room, where they perform far above what audiophiles would expect. I use a Behringer DEQ2496 instead of the Bose equalizer that came with the speakers and I think it sounds much better....
Kef Kube equalizer Unsound... Bose was one of the first to use the equalizer aproach. The idea was to avoid trying to achieve smooth response below driver resonance, which is almost impossible. Most speaker designers try to push resonance down by driver design and l...
Kef Kube equalizer Get a Behringer DEQ2496 equalizer. It will automatically make your KEF speakers flat, so you won't need to figure out what the original KEF equalizer did.
dbx Expnders - 3bx, 5bx Somsel... DBX LPs had the misfortune to arrive at the same time as CDs. Their improvement over regular LPs is large. Focus is mostly on noise reduction, where that compares with CDs, but there are other advantages. Most important IMHO is that perf...
loudness wars: digital recording to improve? Mapman... True.Manipulation in the form of equalization, compression, peak limiting, echo, etc are intended to change the way it sounds, and are therefore fair game for opinions. Error correction, on the other hand, changes nothing between the ori...
loudness wars: digital recording to improve? Again the role of error correction is misunderstood. Error correction is not a band aid to fix undesired screwups. It is a method of handling an expected rate of errors resulting from operating the hardware at a much higher bandwidth than it could...
Speaker crossover mod. Your advice? Rx...In order of importance...Change L6 to aircore inductor $$$$$$$$$$Change L3 to aircore inductor $$$$Change L1 to aircore inductor $$Change C3 to whatever suits your fancyChange C1 to whatever suits your fancy
Magnetization & Demagnetization any conclusions? Geoffkait... I seem to recall some interconnects that featured magnets built into them. Go figure.
Magnetization & Demagnetization any conclusions? The only idea more ridiculous than magnetized LPs is magnetized CDs. At least a phono cartridge is sensitive to magnetism.
Magnetization & Demagnetization any conclusions? Why not support the arm so that the stylus is just out of contact with the LP. Turn up the volume, and what do you hear? Probably a little noise. Now start the platter. What do you hear? If the noise doesn't change the LP is not magnetized. |
