12V On/Off Options for Amps do not have this
Get a 12 volr relay from Radio Shack. Install it in the amp, or in a standard junction box with an outlet (switched) into which you plug your amp.
Location of surround speakers for music
"well recorded" multi-channel music does not always limit the surround channels to ambience. Antiphonal music is the most obvious example. (Antiphonal music was composed for two or more orchestras located at different parts of the hall, often "tal...
Sealed vs Ported Subwoofers
The sealed sub absorbs the backwave of the open baffle driver. Not really a new idea.
Sealed vs Ported Subwoofers
Subwoofers are very commonly used with electronic equalization. The inherently-smooth slow rolloff of a sealed system is best suited to equalization, and the equalization can take care of the fact that the rolloff begins at a higher frequency.
Driving 805s with Mac's 2ohm output
No damage. It's like driving your car in low gear all the time. The engine won't stall, but you won't go very fast.
Digital room correction, any recommendations?
Mordante... I have heard all the theoretical reasons why the $300 Behringer DEQ2496 won't fix room acoustic anomalies. But, mine do an excellent job. Don't you know that bumblebees can't fly.
Confused about biamping and crossovers
Biamping was very effective when audio amps ran several percent IM distortion, and 20 watts was a powerful amp. Limiting the bandwidth of the signal going through the amp helped. Also, as a secondary benefit, greater power could be achieved. With ...
Help me choose an active crossover
Barrysandy... The Ashly X/O which I suggested is not digital, and the crossover circuit is the same as the Marchand units. To suggest that its "build quality" is suspect is just silly. Compared with the Marchand products it is built like a battles...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Davide256... Magnepan agrees with you that the brightness is a source issue. They say that because many popular speakers roll off highs recordings are mastered with boosted highs. They claim that the Maggie is flat without the resistor, but that t...
Help me choose an active crossover
I have had several Marchand crossovers. They work fine, but I found that the replacement of modules to change frequency was a hassle. The Ashly crossover I use now employs the same 24 dB L/R circuit implemented with OP Amps as the Marchand units.
Help me choose an active crossover
I have used active crossovers for decades. I am presently using an Ashly XR2001 (pro sound) crossover and find it very good. It can do four channels 2-way, or two channels 3-way. Crossover frequencies are easily adjustable (with knobs) which I bel...
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
Josh358... The resistor "shelf effect" counteracts the shelf effect which exists when no resistor is used due to the greater sensitivity of the tweeter. The resistor is simply in series with the signal feed to the tweeter section of the crossover....
Tweaking the Magnepan 1.7s
The reluctance people show about using a resistor for the tweeter is amusing. In general, tweeters are more sensitive than woofers and all crossover networks include a "tweeter padding resistor" to achieve balance. Because Magnepan makes its own t...
behringer a500 amp,anyone heard it?
Sure it sounds great, but you have no braging rights in audiophile circles.
