Magnepan 1.6 active 24db slop better than stock? Magfan... Yeah. I got ir backwards. It is the woofer that is 12 dB slope, and the tweeter 6 dB.As to the crossover frequency, 1600 is what you get from calculations using the values of components in the crossover. The accoustic crossover includes ...
Magnepan 1.6 active 24db slop better than stock? The electrical crossover is 1600 (maybe 1500). The accoustical crossover is where the woofer and tweeter SPLs are equal. If you have a spectrum analyser, connect the tweeter with inverted polarity and look for a deep notch in the frequency respons...
Magnepan 1.6 active 24db slop better than stock? The woofer and tweeter crossover slopes are different (as you mention) but the break frequencies are also different. If you use a L/R crossover the break frequencies will be the same. Who knows how the speakers will sound.
2 Channel Amp for Surrounds: Need Recommendations Stringreen... "Chamber" music was composed for performance in an intimate environment... a chamber (room) in a private house. Likewise a jazz jam session occurs in someone's house. And then there is an entire class of music, antiphonal, where half ...
2 Channel Amp for Surrounds: Need Recommendations Stringreen... You say "Surrounds do very little."That may be true for some discs, but for others the surround channels are equal to the mains. Case in point is Tacet recordings of classical chamber music where certain instruments are almost 100 pe...
From pro to hi-fi and a little confused... Kbarkamian... My suggestion about large woofers and horn mids and tweeters is not simply about SPL. Such drivers impart a quality to the sound which is necessary for realism. I learned this decades ago when I discovered that an el cheapo horn mid/...
From pro to hi-fi and a little confused... Rock music comes out of 15 and 18 inch woofers and horn mids and tweeters. To reproduce it you need 15 or 18 inch woofers and horn mids and tweeters:-)No 6 inch driver is up to the job.
How to isolate a refrigerator? FWIW... A gas refrigerator has no compressor and makes no noise. They work fine and are usually sold to folks who are "off the grid".
The Physics of Electricity Unsound... Just went and checked my cables. Alpha-core Goertz is what I bought. They must be good because I clean forgot what they are!
The Physics of Electricity I actually did a careful experiment. I was a non-believer. and Sean, formerly on Audiogon, loaned me a set of cables to test. I was using AWG12 zip cord. I forget exact;y what the test cables were, but they were a well regarded "exotic" brand.I se...
Stereo Imaging It depends on your speaker setup. In my room the mains must be far apart, and I have used a center since before multichannel was invented. The extra speaker provides extra volume, taking the load off the mains.
The Physics of Electricity No. No one can explain it. Perhaps it is all in the mind.
Hearing Damage over 20khz? Shadorne... Agreed... "there is no evidence that we can actually hear pure tones well above 20 KHz".But we can detect the presence or absense of such tones. Perhaps this is because of beat frequencies as you suggest.Listen to a 20KHz square wave a...
Hearing Damage over 20khz? Shadorne... I am very familiar with Fourier analysis. (I used it a lot in my role as a test design engineer).Evidently you have not experienced the phenomina which I described. The ongoing interest in supertweeters is further evidence that frequen...
Hearing Damage over 20khz? Shadorne... And there are woofer hairs, midrange hairs, and tweeter hairs. However, the ON/OFF mechanization can represent waveform as well as frequency. What is your explanation of ability to sense the existance or absence of frequencies higher th... |
