Its all in the DAC? How does "grainy" sound?
Stuck in a Rut To avoid boredom with classical music, buy several discs of the same piece. Brahms and Tchaikovsky violin concertos are a good place to start. An interesting feature of classical music is that you can find many recordings of some of the great piec...
Pioneer DV-47ai vs Denon DVD-2900 Universal I just replaced a Pioneer DV45A player with the Denon DVD2900. With regard to audio quality, the 45A and the 47A share the same electronics, and probably sound about the same. (The 47AI has better video, and some other bells and whistles, for abou...
Center channel Just to clarify my view about center channels (as if everyone doesn't know by now) I am a big advocate of center channel speakers, and have been since long before discrete multichannel sources were available. However, part of my argument is that t...
Center channel No, but you can tell your DVD player and SS processor that you don't have a center channel speaker, and it will mix the center channel sounds into the front left and right. Because MMG image well, you will be in good shape.
What ratio of power in tri-amp system ? Sounds like you already have amps and speakers. I suggest that you play some music, various selections, the way that you intend, and measure the voltages being applied to the high, mid, and LF drivers. This will tell you which speaker is using the...
Aragon 4004 mk2 vs Adcom 555 mk2 Gmood1...Negative feedback just means that the amp output is compared with the input, with appropriate gain and phase compensation, and the resulting "error signal" is applied to the input (or at some intermediate stage) so as to reduce the error ...
Is there any obvious advantage for monoblocks? Subaruguru...We agree! (Something must be wrong here). All my power amps and electronic crossovers live in the cellar, and have done so for decades. Besides, that way you can hide from your audiophile buddies the fact that your amps don't carry hi...
Audioquest Dialectric-Bias System Why can't you accomplish the same thing by misadjustment of the amp bias? Also, batteries have rather high internal resistance.
Top Audio Designers Of All Time? Sorry guys, but depending on your definition of "top" it is arguably Bose. $$$$$$$$$.Actually, in 1956, when Bose was a MIT prof, he had a multidriver (I think it was 24) speaker system set up in the MIT music library that was cutting edge technol...
Cable Hook-up / Direction needed for Moron The signal does not "flow". The arrow just tells you at which end the shield is tied to ground. The arrow points away from that end. Usually grounding the shield at the source component (eg: preamp) is most effective for noise rejection, but not a...
Is there any obvious advantage for monoblocks? High power capability, that you can still pick up and carry.Short speaker wires/long interconnects... probably a wash.Separation (low crosstalk) is a myth unless your stereo amp is a clunker.
Calling all analog experts I agree that the best pickup I ever had was MC, but for practical reasons I now use a Shure V15MR, and it ain't bad at all. Two points with reference to prior comments.1. I don't think that trackability explains MC superiority. No cartridge beats ...
Carver Power Amps Ears...I made a typo.. it is less than $900, but may be down to $800 by the time you order. I was going to order one and give it the listening test. But then I really needed three channels for the Maggies, that meant two Carvers. But that left one...
Carver Power Amps Pro sound amps, which Carver now makes, are serious business, not a hobby, and performance (and price) sells. The current Carver ZR 1600 (PWM digital)is specd both at 1 khz and for 20 to 20KHz, 660 and 600 watts respectively into 4 ohms. Not much ... |
