An observation about "Modern" classical music. Brownsfan...Following "quit after Peter and the Wolf" I ought to have put a :-). An exaggeration of course, but you get my drift.Seurat...Yes, those four notes, by themselves, are strongly rhythmic, but they do have tone, and are answered, in matc...
tube watts vs solid state watts People go on and on about one brand of tube vs another, but I think that it is the audio output transformer which largely determines the sonic quality of a tube amp. It's not easy to "roll" transformers so there is little discussion of this subjec...
An observation about "Modern" classical music. Seurat...Beethoven "Moonlight" sonatta and the first four notes of the 5th are some of the most well recognized music there is. Very hummable. Of course, after he went deaf...Brahms violin concerto is perhaps my favorite, but some of his later cha...
Adapting Oversized Spades W/o Reterminating Of course you will have defeated the purpose of the barriers. Be careful not to short out your amp.
Diff in recording/reproduction in Analog/CD/SACD Ejlif...We differ in opinion. Who is right or wrong is for others to decide, hopefully by listening to the gear rather than reading this thread. Please note that I report my experience over 50 years of spinning LPs...it's not just a theoretical op...

Accepting International Payments Just Got Harder.. Fmpnd...Thanks for the lecture! But why can't the bank verify that the check is valid by some sort of electronic means? When I travel on Southwest Airlines I have in my pocket a paper printout of my E-Ticket, but the agent never really looks at it...
Diff in recording/reproduction in Analog/CD/SACD I can believe that Albert's LP playback system, heard through his superb amplification and speaker system, and using well cleaned new audiophile vinyl is probably very close to the master tapes, and what more could you ask? He has stated that cost...
ADCOM Repairs One advantage of an old fashoned tube amp is that if you can get a schematic and are at all handy with a soldering iron you can probably fix it yourself. Modern electronics are almost unrepairable...you are supposed to junk it and buy another whic...
Any shows coming up? I find show room visits are often worthless too. The dealers rarely have demos of all the stuff they sell. You listen to a speaker, like it, and wonder if the larger one from the same manufacturer would be better, and by how much. Also, dealers wa...
Accepting International Payments Just Got Harder.. In this day of wire transfers, I don't see why *any* significant hold is necessary. Perhaps we have a banker who can explain.
Behringer DEQ2496 - worth using in hi-end system? Warnerwh...I don't know why they discourage autoeq below 100 Hz. It seems to work for me. However, your point about the parametric at low frequency is well taken. In fact you are supposed to be able to calculate the frequencies from the dimensions...
An observation about "Modern" classical music. Lousyreeds1...Serious question...Do you feel that there are any criteria which separate "sound" from "music"? For example: how about a collage of random sound snippets, which is how some of your (___?) music sounds to me. If this is "music" could ...
Behringer DEQ2496 - worth using in hi-end system? Warnerwh...I thought the graphic eq was 1/6 octave like the RTD because I could watch the individual 1/6 oct displays change in a way that looked independent. But checking the manual I see you are correct. Maybe I will fool around with the paramet...
are rear surround sound speakers having same sound I think that there is only one "rear" (as opposed to "surround") signal. It can be sent to more than one speaker. It is a "derived" signal, probably a mix of the surround signals. |
