Is there a difference in balanced cables?? Drrdiamond..My ears too, but for those who must have affirmation from a guru, Albert is the gold standard.
Is there a difference in balanced cables?? Baffled...Our Guru, Albertporter, has recommended Blue Jeans cables. What more do you need to know?
Cassette Tapes..Dolby B or C? In the generation of master tapes DBX processing beat out Dolby. The DBX processors available to amateurs at a reasonable price were less sophisticated, and comparable to Dolby. I used one for a while. In the world of master tapes it was also noti...
Is there a difference in balanced cables?? .The balanced wire configuration, and really the output/input circuitry that is balanced, avoids problems that single-ended wire tries to minimize by exotic construction and materials. Thus with the balanced configuration the wire itself is less o...
Cassette Tapes..Dolby B or C? Everyone gets bent out of shape about copy protection which prevents the making of digital copies. The easy way around this is a good analog recorder of some kind, or even a digital recorder which accepts analog inputs.
Power relays to turn on amps I have the Adcom unit that has the nice feature of sequencing the power on and off with appropriate delays. But if all you want is a relay, buy one from Radio Shack and build it in to a regular electrical box.
What paint to use on power outlets Hey Kevine! Who wears the pants in your family? Color of the outlets? Give me a break.
Cassette Tapes..Dolby B or C? The tapes are plainly marked "Dolby" but no indication of B or C. I guess B is the right answer.
putting speaker vertical or horizontal? Kr4...I absolutely agree that a physical center speaker is better than the best imaging stereo pair. I use a center speaker identical to the front left/right...a MG 1.6 with a subwoofer. Nevertheless, imaging does work. Some people with HT systems...
Another sign SACD is dying Quadophile...Well said! I enjoyed my SQ LPs, some of which were really good. I still have the Vinyl but not the decoder. I have tried Dolby PLII with them, but it doesn't work too well.
putting speaker vertical or horizontal? Kr4...I understand what you say, but it doesn't always seem to work that way. Suppose you had two drivers spaced 6 feet apart...wouldn't they (ideally) image as one driver between them? Now, put the tweeter at that spot. As a point of interest, ju...
putting speaker vertical or horizontal? Pabelson...Why don't you just tell us why MTM speakers don't work well horizontal, instead of citing links we can't use?
putting speaker vertical or horizontal? The usual explanations involving dispersion characteristics don't explain why vertical souns better even when you are listening straight on to the speaker. Here is another theory...In the typical speaker the Woofer and Tweeter are lined up vertica...
Dedicated power, long power cords - waste of time? .Contrary to what Zenieth states, there is doubt. I suggest that you get a long (40 ft?) heavy duty extension cord and plug it into an outlet near your electric service box. Turn off every electrical device on the same fuse/breaker as that outlet....
Why a "digital" coax cable? A cable with the proper impedance will transmit a less distorted binary (ON/OFF) waveform, but, so long as the receiver can still distinguish ON from OFF there will be no problem. Component video, which also uses RCA plugs, is another story. Even ... |
