Obscure brands worth considering
A few decades ago I worked in high-end audio, and we did carry some more obscure speaker lines. What I learned back then is that not all speaker manufacturers build their own drivers, they oftentimes spec out their needs and have them built by othe...
Ugly vs Gogeous speakers
When I approached my wife with the idea of replacing my stand mounts in the living room with floor standing models, she said "why don't you move your system down to the family room, and create your 'man cave'".  That's what I did!As Jeff Foxworthy...
Channel Imbalance at low volumes
I had the same problem with an NAD receiver, had it in the shop 2 or 3 times, but they never really solved the problem.  In my case, the left channel would be the same volume but only playing the system louder than I typically enjoyed.Good luck!
Class D is just Dandy!
Anyone had a chance to audition the Mytek Brooklyn Class D Amp?It's been years since I've auditioned a class D amp, I can't remember which brand/model, I do remember it sounding harsh (to me), but from what I'm reading, class D amps have come a lo...
Ever Bought an Audio Product that was Stupid Good for the Money?
For the last five years or so I've been on a journey as I learn more about audio equipment, especially digital audio, with nearly constant swapping of individual pieces in my audio system, I think I'm "done" with the hardware upgrades for now, and...
Power Amp Suggestions
I have enjoyed a McIntosh MC452 power amp for a few years now, and find it to be very easy to listen to.It's not "your father's McIntosh" amp, to me sounds "fast", but "smooth" and "musical".  And this is driving a pair of Focal Sopra's with that ...
NAD M50.2
Over the years I'd owned several NAD pieces, the last a stack of the "Masters Series" components.  I've enjoyed the simplicity of the design and the sound quality.  However the last few purchases were not without problems, my SACD player needed a ...
Full MQA music list.
randyhat,Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this list!I have found that, to find a lot of new MQA on Tidal, you need to go into each artist I'm interested in, one by one, and scroll thru the albums on their individual page.  With your lis...
Mc 452 or MC 302
I have enjoyed my MC452 for about two years now, compared it to the MC302 and thought it sounded better, just my opinion. The MC452 is a current model.  McIntosh will be announcing new products each month for the rest of 2017, so who knows, maybe a...
Newest Aqusition, McIntosh MA6600 Integrated
Welcome to "the club".  I lusted after McIntosh equipment since the early 70's and have enjoyed it in my home now for about five years! Some people who post on this site are, shall we say, NOT McIntosh fans.  I enjoy my McIntosh equipment, that's a...
Are future improvements in Amp/PreAmps slowing to a crawl?
I see two things improving these days, DACs and class D power amps.Other than incorporating new, more capable DAC chipsets into new preamp models, I agree with others who have posted here, that the preamp itself isn't really improving.  In my case...
Why is good, deep bass so difficult? - Myths and their Busters
Over the years I've had multiple setups with subs.  Sometimes they are very frustrating to get integrated, so the system doesn't sound like it has sub woofers, this last time was the most frustrating, as the room had terrible acoustics in the bass...
Not Enough Options for Auditioning Speakers
I feel your pain, it took me about a year, driving all over the place, to find a pair of speakers that hit "the sweet spot".One thing about the postings here, and the reviews you'll read is that they are all "opinions", and each and every one of u...
Thief Alert
I'm sorry to read this.  I've had nothing but good luck buying and selling on Audiogon, but I've been in touch with others who have run into the occasional seller who is not on the up and up.I do always use PayPal and a credit card, just in case.
How Is MQA Fareing?
Lalitk,BTW, the Brooklyn has a really good headphone amp, with lots of power to drive the most inefficient headphones, a real bonus. It also has the ability to hook a turntable (something I don't own) and from what I've read that capability is well...
