McIntosh C28, C30, or?
I would see if you could snag a C32.  I think the phono stage in that is better than the two preamps you mentioned and I remember when the C32 came out, it seemed to pair better to the MC2205 than the prior preamps from McIntosh.
Reference disc player...UDP 205 or Marantz?
I have been enjoying my PS Audio DirectStream DAC + transport, connected with an I2S (HDMI) cable and to my ears, the best digital I've ever heard.
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed?
Over the years I've been a "serial monogamist" audiophile, usually changing out one piece at a time when doing upgrades.I have a friend who has a walk-in closet full of "spare" components and when he & his wife "downsized", let me know that th...

What makes you build a system around an amplifier?
Last night I attended a local audio event and auditioned a pair of fairly expensive speakers from a well-respected manufacturer, which sounded really "grainy" and not at all pleasing to my ears.So......I think I'd most agree with those who would s...
What 2 channel Amp would you Buy for $6k?
I snagged a mint condition McIntosh MC452 which was something like four months old when I found it on Audiogon.I really enjoy this amp, which is driving a pair of Focal speakers with that beryllium tweeter, which I found sounds too "sharp" with ot...
What makes you build a system around an amplifier?
OK, I'm sure I'll be brow-beaten for this...First of all, the older I get, the more I'm convinced that the better systems are a "synergy" of the various component parts, including cables.  Having said that, if I had to select between amps and spea...
How much HD storage for transferring vinyl?
When I started my current digital setup, I snagged a pair of Western Digital external USB connected 4 tb hard drives (save my AIFF files to one, copy to the other as a backup).  If my memory serves me, I think they were something like $130 each.My...
Your advice to speakers designers
I'd say to them, to offer their dealers a set of "loaner" models, where the dealer can take one's credit card for security and the speakers could be setup in the customer's home, to see if they work well for them, in the room, with the associated ...
Why is good, deep bass so difficult? - Myths and their Busters
I have been a sub woofer fan for a long time, until recently (my last speaker upgrade), I've used stand mounts.  I do find that integrating a sub with the side speakers and especially with the room can be a time-consuming and frustrating challenge...
Focal sopra 2 or raidho d2?
I spent about a year traveling around, auditioning a lot of floor standing speakers, including both the Raidho and Sopra No2 and have enjoyed the Sopra's now for over two years! One thing about the Sopras, I broke them in slowly and gently, giving ...
Class D is just Dandy!
Erik,I too am a big fan.  I have a PS Audio DirectStream DAC, but found it didn't sound so good decoding MQA (even when Tidal did the unfold), so I bought a Brooklyn for MQA.I hope they will have a booth or a dealer at the Capital Audiofest, plan ...
Should there be concern?
"If the box is open, its used!"  Couldn't agree more.I've been really lucky buying and selling on Audiogon, but I hear from others about that occasional person like the one you described.  Life's too short to deal with people like that. The only "p...
BEST brand for Classical Recordings?
I've enjoyed DB, Decca, Pentatone and Sony recordings, have a very nice SACD setup, enjoy most (but not all) of those recordings.I have been very pleasantly surprised by Naxos recordings, all "regular" CDs, usually not performed by "household" nam...
Greatest Rock Drummers
OK, I suspect some will beat me up adding this:I don’t consider him a "rock drummer", but in my opinion the "greatest rock percussionist" is Ringo Starr.I would consider John Bonham the "greatest rock drummer", was lucky to see him with Led Zeppel...
