How long for payment?
Strange they would have used Audiogon's formal way of buying something and not followed thru.  I'd contact Audiogon's help to see what their policy is.One thing I'll not do is deal with those buyers who want to contact you via phone or home email,...
Ever feel like a "low dollar" customer that your dealer doesn't think worth their time?
It's the summer of 1978 and I'm working the sales floor at Shrader Sound in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC and all the other salesmen on the floor were avoiding a seemingly homeless man, with several days growth of beard, smelly, wrinkle...
The pleasure of ownership
I used to work with a guy who seemed to buy a new car every so many months.  He told me he knew he was taking a beating on the depreciation, but he just loved the shopping & buying experience and after the "new car smell" started to fade, his ...
Your One Bullet Point Solution; Electrical Upgrade
Before we renovated our kitchen, a friend who is a licensed first class electrician was building a home and installed the same "commercial" unit in my home that he intended to put in his main panel of his new home.  I reached out to him for a reco...
Youngsters these days.
We sold our house in MD and are in the early stages of having a home built in Western, NC.To prepare out house for listing we "de-cluttered" and "staged" and am somewhat used to having less stuff in our living room. So, instead of having an audio c...
If you had to start all over again in this day and age
For my main "audiophile" system, after 5 or 6 years of constant upgrades, for the system I'm "set", won't change a thing...except that we are moving into a home we are having built, with a "bonus room" for my "man cave", so I guess my true answer ...
stand-mount speakers for classical music
I owned a pair of Totem Fire monitors for several years, if you can listen to them, that might be a good fit.I replaced the Totem's after a year-long search and some of the speakers I enjoyed were from Harbeth, Dynaudio and Sonusfaber.  I ended up...
Which is the most important part of a stereo system?
I'd call the "synergy" among the components and the cabling the "most important part" of a system. If I'd put more emphasis anywhere, I'd go with the sources.  "Garbage in, Garbage out".
Love the gear (or listening to it) as much or more than the music? Sacrilege!
Back in the late 70's/early 80's I was a salesman at some high-end shops in the DC area and I learned that people who seemed to be listening to the equipment not the music hardly ever bought anything.  So I took a lead from my more experienced co-...
What kind of listener are you?
Interesting! Before auditioning a speaker at one of the dealers I visited in my search for a new pair of speakers, the salesman asked me if I preferred "analytic" or "musical" speakers.  For me the choice was "musical".When I've auditioned some of ...
Equipment Warm up, but What About Listener Warm up?
Interesting thought, that the listener and the equipment have a "warm up" time.I remember reading the results of a study of blood pressure changes while watching TV, and if my memory serves me, it took the subjects about 10 minutes for their blood...
Dedicated 20 amp circuit - Electrician laughed!
We are in the early stages of building a home, one with a "bonus room" above the garage for my "man cave".Since we had all sorts of options to customize, I decided to have the builder install a dedicated 20 amp circuit to where my component rack w...
Silver is the appropriate color for everything but speakers.
Black is where it's at...
Class D is just Dandy!
I heard the PS Audio Stellar S300 amplifier driving some Harbeth 30.1 speakers and was very pleasantly surprised!  I see PS Audio is now introducing their M1200 class D monoblocks, with tube inputs.  I suspect they'll sound awesome!
Older And Wiser or just Tighter and Deafer?
As we prepare to sell our house and move I've been keeping my shredder busy lately.  I'm only keeping seven years of my tax returns and business receipts, as I was going thru my papers I had memories of all the good fortune I had, in my 21 years o...
