another thread on DACS/players...thoughts please
Reviving this thread. I also currently use a perfectwave dac + bridge. Quite happy with the sonics but always on the lookout for improvement. I am particularly intruiged by the Antilope Gold + Voltikus, not least because it would allow me to take ...
The Evolution of Modern Jazz
As you may be aware Candy Dulfers's extensively toured with Prince. She also performed with Pink Floyd, Van Morrison and Dave Steward. She is a good player, but being very goodlooking has not exactly hurt her career either. Her father is a well kn...
What would you upgrade next if you had my hifi ?
And it brought the looks into the 22nd century. I always loved the aestetics of the original Revels.
Keith Jarrett
Check out some of the earlier recordings with the "European Quartet", in particular "personal mountains" and "my song". Mostly original compositions that I prefer of the "standards" recorded with the "American Trio".
What would you upgrade next if you had my hifi ?
Not sure what you are doing about power, but in my experience getting a PS audio regenerator (first powerplant premier than upgraded to P5) was a huge boost. Second, I used to have Studios as well. Then I did an in room shootout with Verity Audio ...
How to make a preamp bypass switch?
This box does exactly what you need, is expensive and has a distinct high end look to it. http://www.goldpt.com/sw2x.htmlIf it is any good I cannot tell, but I would expect no audible degration from the box itself. In a real high end system you wi...
Subwoofer crossovers
I have the exact same configuration. Works beautifully - no noise, no drop in fidelity whatsoever. Only difference is use a MCH analog preamp instead of a SSP and apply no bass management in my SACD/BR player (I use source direct for SACD which by...
Subwoofer crossovers
Should work. Very similar to what I am doing. Only thing to keep in mind is that if you apply cross over to your mains in the meridian in MCH mode, AND you run a set of outputs from your preamp (I presume with HT bypass) through the NHT, you will ...
If your whole system costs $40,000....
Forget CD players. Rip your collection to harddisc and get a good USB Dac or a USB to S/PDIF converter and DAC. You can achieve SQ of very high grade CD players this way, and the convience is unsurpasses. Ripping the CD's is the real bitch though...
Subwoofer crossovers
Hevac - other thought. If you have set cross-over on your JL's for stereo mode (at say 35Hz), the JL's will cut of your LFE input at that frequency as well, and you would lose most of your LFE information. The only way around this is to use the NH...
Subwoofer crossovers
I did an in house shootout between the Avalons Eidolon Visions and my Verity Parsifals and prefered the former. Highs of Verity were a bit smoother, but I prefed mid and in particular high bass in the Avalons. I blew up the Avalon midrange playing...
Top 5 Rock n Roll Vocalists
I would pick two "traditional rock" singers:Robert Plant and Roger Daltry.Add two more mellow "acoustic rock" singers:Steve Winwood (very unique tone of voice that I really like) and David Crosby. And close out the list with Eddie Veder
Subwoofer crossovers
I my experience deep and solid bass response is more critical to realistically render "small jazz" (with bass and drumkit), than large orchestration. In fact, nowhere do I need my subs more than on small jazz.
Subwoofer crossovers
Sure, but to suggest Hevac should cut off his $40,000 speakers with 11" woofers at 80Hz and reproduce this range with two EQ'ed subs instead makes no sense. Now, if you believe a sub / satellite system has big inherent advantages that is a differe...
Subwoofer crossovers
For a two way X-over at low cross-over point tubes would probably not be your best bet. I was considering a custome made (i.e. LFE channel added) version of the (cheaper) XM-44.
