PerfectWave DAC / Zodiac Gold Shootout Round 1
James, if you go to page 6 of the PWD MKII thread on the discussion forum on the PS audio site, Paul explains in detail what this upgrade is about. Later on he adds that it will also add asynchronous USB and cost $1000 ($800 for early adopters). T...
JL Audio
I have 2 x f113 in an identically sized room. Walls are not shacking at all. Just clean tight bass. Get one f113 first, and when funds permit get a second and run as discrete stereo pair. Always nice to know there is an upgrade path down the road....
Toots Thielemans
I saw him in Boston about 10 years ago. Great musician. The theme song for a rather steamy Dutch movie (Turkish Delight, featuring a yound Rutger Hauer going full monthy) was written by him and is forever ingrained in my musical memory.
On a mission for more BASS
Not sure why you would buy a pair of speakers with "dissapointing" bass but that is another issue. Forget bi-amping. You don;t need big subs - for integration with the Sophias yoou need fast subs. Get two JL Audio 113's. Additional benefit is you ...
Burning Burn in question
I'm more concerned about blowing my speakers. I just did this a few weeks ago and was out $1,000 for new midrange drivers.
Burning Burn in question
Thanks for the advise. Not sure I want to both turn the poweramp on AND play at 100% volume :), but I'll hook up the DAC/Pre to my poweramp, keep it turned off and crank the volume on the DAC all the way up.
another thread on DACS/players...thoughts please
I have it on 3 week trial so I will burn in for about 300 hours before serious listening. While on the subject, do I need to connect the DAC/Pre to a poweramp and if so does it need to be turned on? I would think without a downstream load there is...
Recordings with BASS
Every single one of Anouar Brahem's 8 albums is a gem in its own right. If you like the Arab drum I also suggest you check our the album Nafas by Rabih Abou-Khalil.

PC for Antelope Zodiac / Perfectwave DAC Shootout?
I bought a Mac Mini 2009 (with SSD and 8GB RAM) for the shootout. If I keep the Zodiac and stick with USB, I may look into the 2011 Mach2Music..
another thread on DACS/players...thoughts please
I will soon be able to add an additional datapoint to this discussion. Zodiac Gold + Voltikus will be arriving this week (on trial), Mac Mini is in the house. Only difference is I my shootout is against perfectwave DAC + Bridge, which also buffers...
Importance of computer for DAC shootout
From what I have been reading the current vintage of asynchronous USB DACs have closed the gap with other interfaces. However, I will have a good old transport on standby to hear for myself.
What preamps outshine the Aesthetix Calypso?
That's easy. For this your DAC / Preamp needs to have a digital volume level display, and a step attenuator (the Zodiac Gold does). You can simply ask the maufacurer what volume level corresponds to "unity gain" (i.e. 0db attenuation). You connect...
Importance of computer for DAC shootout
OK - thanks. Don't get me wrong - I appreciate all the advise I am getting here. I placed my bet on the Mac Mini. Next let's see who wins the shootout. If its a close call I may try some other USB source, but most likely I would get an external po...
Importance of computer for DAC shootout
We're going off on a tangent. I have a phenomenally sounding PS AUdio Perfectwave DAC, streaming over the network. I am just intruiged by an reportedy very good altenative DAC with analog volume control. I want to make sure the computer I use to f...
