LP's: the measure of off-centre record spindle holes ?
As ghsmd implies, it can be a tricky business to correct for off-center vinyl. For one, if you widen the vinyl's center hole it could drive you nuts to accurately place the record in the proper spot. I just don't have the coordination or the eyesi...

It only bothers me when I actually hear wow. For my ears, piano and violin sections are particularly sensitive to what wow does -- cause a regular, cyclical alteration of pitches.  Hate it!  I might say, too, that I have some 45 singles where the ...
What do you no longer have that you would enjoy a night to listen to again?
My Koetsu Black Gold Line. Until I get to the inner grooves.
What sends shivers down your spine when you play it on your system?
barts -- I truly like my original Broadway Cast West Side Story, too.  The CD doesn't mention the conductor but I figure it's got to be Lenny.  Compelling score, performed with no end of compassion and energy.  Surprisingly good fidelity on my CD.
Why is black so popular for components?
josephp -- I say let the components all be different colors. It show that your ears are in charge.  Not your eyes!
Whats your favourite track to play to the non hi-fi visitor?
"Save your Love for Me." Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley on an old Capitol LP.Side One of "Villancicos," Atrium Musicae de Madrid on Harmonia Mundi France. Vinyl.
Why is black so popular for components?
lou -- I'd swear my long gone, very early NAD gear (1970's?) was brown.
What sends shivers down your spine when you play it on your system?
Ramones -- I Wanted Everything.  Zeppelin -- Dazed and Confused.  Clapton's guitar solo in Spoonful, the one on Cream's "Wheels of Fire" album.  Judith Nelson's performance of Henry Purcell's "Pursuing Beauty" in Volume 2 of Henry Purcell's Theatr...
I've been dragged to recommendations, kicking and screaming
Batting average isn't quite a Thousand, but I generally like the suggestions Primephonic's Classical Evangelist emails my way a whole lot.
What sends shivers down your spine when you play it on your system?
Debussy's Deux Arabesques performed by pianist Philippe Entremont on a lousy-sounding old Masterworks LP.  The choral movement of Mahler's Third on an I-wish-it-sounded-slightly-better Jascha Horenstein recording I have  on both Nonesuch and Unico...

When I decided to dip into digital waters with a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge, Music Direct had a silver one at a special price. Apparently, they can't sell silver ones to save their lives. In any case, it doesn't matter to me that it's my only silver co...
My "audiophile" weakness(es)...ie: how the item looks, and you?.
I've hated the looks of my SOTA Sapphire ever since I bought it.  It's looked cheesy and 1970's from the first day it came out.  The MMT tonearm it sported at one time in history wasn't exactly a beauty contest winner, either...but I do consider m...
Audio Research preamps EXCESSIVE OPERATING COSTS
Class A tranny stuff ain't exactly frugal with the old wall socket, either.  Thank goodness for Stand By switches.
I have been a stickler about keeping power cables away from signal cables...on equipment ?
Just for kicks, I looked at the backs of my components to see how far away the mains plugs are from the interconnect terminals.  All three -- my Mytek Brooklyn BB, my Primaluna Integrated and my Sony CD/SACD player -- have the power connection on ...
