jdane -- I dig your choices.  Love the Schubert Fifth.  I play some of those tunes on my fiddle.  It's better than whistling 'em!  The adagio in the Bruckner Eighth has some of the most powerful moments in all of music.  The Mahler Third is a vast...

I’ll start with #39 -- MozartIt doesn’t help that I’ve got a weakness for Fourths -- Brahms, Mahler, Tchaikovsky.Fifths give me fits, too.
Anybody know where to score a copy of the 2016 Eli and the thirteenth Confession SACD?
emarei -- I agree.  Mono doesn't do it for me. I lived through several years of the pre-stereo era.  I was gobsmacked the day my dad brought home a stereo to replace his mono rig.  Was it 1958? 1960?  A whole new, wonderful world.  I have no short...
Anybody know where to score a copy of the 2016 Eli and the thirteenth Confession SACD?
There were at least three rock-and-roll AM stations in Los Angeles in the late 1960's.  There were no FM rock-and-roll stations at all.  FM stations still mostly broadcast in mono, and the few stations that did broadcast in stereo mostly featured ...
Anybody know where to score a copy of the 2016 Eli and the thirteenth Confession SACD?
emarei -- I was in...or just out of...high school.  I'd previously enjoyed Wedding Bell Blues, which was a modest hit on L.A. AM radio.  I went to a party.  Eli and the Thirteenth Confession was on the record player.  I absolutely had to have it b...
Listening to full LPs vs virtually endless digital tracks.
jjss49 -- I actually think I saw a record-flipping turntable at a hi-fi show in the...what was it...the 1960's?  The 1970's?
Listening to full LPs vs virtually endless digital tracks.
I still truly enjoy putting on an LP and listening to Side 1 and then Side 2. I put a CD on and listen to it from beginning to end.  I'll ring up an album on Qobuz that I don't have and let it unfold start to finish.
What I'm thankful for in Audio ...
We gotta stick together. It seems everybody else in the world thinks we're tweaky, self-absorbed neurotics with more dollars than sense.  All I can think of is an old Rodriguez (?) cartoon in Hifi Stereo Review that has an audiophile happily liste...
Anybody know where to score a copy of the 2016 Eli and the thirteenth Confession SACD?
emarei -- I'd be shocked if the night I saw Laura at the Troub wasn't her L.A. debut. I can't remember exactly who, but I saw my share of Hollywood movie and music heavyweights in the audience.  She hardly played a single tune straight.  She'd sta...
What kind of music do you like to hear the most?
ebm -- Mickey Katz? Love the guy. I still have the Katz Pajamas LP (in stereo!) my dad gave me and my sister when we were kids. I have a 45 rpm single of the guy's Come On-A My House I salvaged from my dad's collection.  It's amazing how often Kat...
The NAD M33 will cancel your complaints about Class D
This thread has jogged my memory, as it seems I've actually auditioned several Class D integrateds -- the Devialet, the NuPrime and the Lingdorf.  Of the three, the Devialet came closest to pushing my buttons but none of them got me to replace my ...
What kind of music do you like to hear the most?
Genre is far less important for me than artistic expression.  My only criterion is whether the music emotionally gets under my skin. Putting it another way, I like both vanilla and chocolate.  But strawberry?  Nevahhhhhh!
Anybody know where to score a copy of the 2016 Eli and the thirteenth Confession SACD?
emarei -- sorry I can't help you with Eli but your post sparked a long dead neuron in my cranium.  I compulsively dove into my CD collection and uncovered a Laura Nyro SACD I'd totally forgotten about -- of her "comeback" album "Angel in the Dark....
Your favorite 'concept' album
Yeah, I may be stating the obvious here, but the whole idea of pop/jazz concept albums owes itself to classical music.  After all what else is a symphony, concerto, opera or song cycle?
The NAD M33 will cancel your complaints about Class D
If I were in the market I'd be giving a serious listen to Class D.  Why the heck not?  And if it causes the weeds in my garden to shrivel up, so much the better.
