Does a taste for high end audio, also carry over into your other interests?
Call me shallow, but I just like quality stuff.  I tend to purchase musical instruments that, how shall I put it, are a bit north of my playing prowess.   Good beer.  Good coffee.  Good espresso machine.  If I could afford it I'd buy better wine. ...
what are your cartridge set up go to
Dennesen Soundtractor.  I also have a cart alignment tool that came with my do-I-still-have-it? Shure V-15.  A couple of very lightweight bubble levels.  A couple pairs of precision tweezers I inherited from my dentist dad.
Message from the Past: We were never against tone controls
Frankly, I couldn't give a hoot over tone controls. I think it's only one time out of a hundred where I find a recording's EQ to be foul enough to complain.  I actually enjoy the different EQs the producers and artists deliver.  They lend a record...
How old are you?
Late 60's.
Roots, ie: how did your music/sound/audio life/listening begin?
My dad was into hi-fi.  Whenever he moved upward he'd hand me down his old stuff.  I know I mentioned this in a long-ago post, but I watched him solder together a trio of Heathkit separates on the kitchen table -- components that included a tubed ...
If someone looked through you music (records, CDs, etc.) what would surprise them?
A lot.  My tastes are all over the place.
Name a few albums which helped determine your musical tastes
Shocking how many of my favorite albums show up in this thread. I guess that's why they call so many of them classics.
What's your best 'Score'?
An abandoned, near mint copy of Casino Royale, the most valuable superdisc of all time.  "Oooh, Dusty's voice this!"  "Oooh, Dusty's voice that!"
How eclectic is your taste in music?
If the music is made with heart and skill, I really don't care what the genre is.  From opera to chamber music to punk to pop to soul to jazz to MOR to hip-hop, etc., etc., etc., if the delivery is compelling enough I can't help but listen.  My mu...
Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
My eyes are too glazed over to pore over every post here, but it's probably been said many times in this thread that the better the sound quality, the closer we audio nerds get to the music's emotional essence.
Name the most recent album that has shaped your musical world
The new Buster Poindexter record featured on Qobuz.  An upbeat, high energy treat.  I actually saw the guy live back in the Seventies (Eighties?) when he was the lead singer of the New York Dolls.
Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
danvignau -- Yeah, I get a kick out of the '70's music obsession here.  But be nice! Call it "predilection."
I love sad music
Mahler's 10th Symphony Adagio.  Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused. Not so much sad as a bout of rage & insanity.  Mozart's Symphony #40.  First movement of Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony.
Favorite Symphonies Quiz
I love Gustav Mahler for his tunes.  For the way he can evoke a time, place and mood.  For the way he creates a world you can not only see & hear, but can touch and walk around in.  His First Symphony evokes what for me is the first day of Pla...
Earplugs at concerts back in the day
I was a regular earplug wearer but I removed them for exceptional performances and when I needed a change of pace from the muffled, low-fi, AM radio tone they'd subject me with.
