What I really hate about some music
Ya know, I often enjoy the simplicity you don't seem to like. If the emotion is real, and the musician is able to bring that emotion to bear, all is well in my book.

rvpiano -- Enjoy it!. Eddie likes it...
Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
audioguy85 -- Love your word processor’s auto-correct feature! And oh yeah, remember to put the dishwasher on pots n’ pans after playing your 78’s.
Billie or Ella? Maria or Renata? Technique or feeling?
barts -- I’m mightily impressed with your concert going. My parents saw Sinatra a couple times in Vegas. Sinatra at the Sands? I’m not quite sure. They did, however, take me and my sister to see Sammy Davis Jr. when he was in Vegas. In any case, t...
Ever Damage A Stylus Using Cleaning Brush?
I leave my tonearm locked with the cuing lever up when I’ve finished listening for the day. There are enough earthquakes in my neck of the woods to keep me sufficiently paranoid. A back-to-front brushing has never hurt my stylus or cantilever in ...
2011 Graceland remaster, with bonus tracks.........
I played that LP for years. It is also one of the prime reasons why I got so involved in reggae music. I haven’t done it in years but I was absolutely fluent doing that backward reggae guitar rhythm. It took a long time to get it down but I could ...

chowkwan -- Truly.. And far be it for me to denigrate the situation with cliche, yeah,  life imitates opera.
What is your favorite cover?
I agree with Tim Buckley's performance of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Utterly gorgeous. Packed with emotion.

kijanki -- I actually saw Jimmy Scott perform live, probably at Dante's in Hollywood. A real treat!

How 'bout virtuosity in the pursuit of emotional expression? Ah, that's the ticket! Then again, if I just had to choose one it'd be heart over brain any day.
What do you consider the most when choosing a pair of speakers?
As ghdprentice says -- "musicality with details in the correct perspective, midrange bloom and detailed natural bass." To this I'd add 3D imaging.
Remembering Lou Reed
I peeled off the Banana Peel sticker from my first edition Velvet Underground LP, thus ruining its collector value. Then again, I played that LP so much, the jacket soon  became a cardboardy ruin, anyway. I was turned on to Lou Reed and the band b...
Classical Music for Aficionados
jim5559 I gotta tell ya' that it just doesn't matter to me if I understand what the words are in foreign language vocals. I just get into the exotic sounds the singers make. The foreign languages add to the the flavor of what I hear. I let the vo...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
@lewm Your opinion concerning MC/MM/MI sound differences is exactly what I said in my original post. I guess we're caught in a glitch in the Matrix. As Mick Jagger once sang, "Gimme shelter!"  In any event, I think I found a happy best-of-both-w...
MM, MC, or MI cartridge
How ’bout this for a quick & dirty explanation? With a Moving Coil cartridge there is more there there. More detail. Better imaging. More dimensionality. Moving Magnets & Moving Iron cartridges, by contrast, often deliver better tonality &...
