Aidas Durawood Rainbow Cartridge "Review"
Thanks for the review!
What I really hate about some music
In my younger, crueler days I'd sometimes grab my acoustic guitar and hoot out Neil Young's "Old Man." in my whiniest falsetto.
Mozart-Clarinet Quintet
I continue to enjoy my old London Treasury Series lp of the performance by members of the Vienna Octet. I saw the Quintet performed live by the Octet, as well.  I'm willing to bet, though, that the members of the ensemble were not the same as it w...
How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music?
mitchagain -- Thanks for bringing up Be Bop Deluxe. I might have mentioned all this in a long-ago thread, but I enjoyed the heck out of them. Bill Nelson remains one of my favorite guitar players. Virtuosity to spare but decidedly un-serious. Anot...
Where do you want your system to go when you go?
I'll probably give it to my nephew. He has taste in music and a good house to put it into. I'll leave an amount of cash equal to the value of the stuff to my niece. If my neph wants to give it to someone else, that'll be nice, too.
How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music?
I’ve probably said this a half-dozen times before on various threads, but sometimes you just have to rely on your subjective impulse and ignore the intellectual folderol we so often use to bolster our arguments on art & music. When I worked in...
What have you discovered?
Yeah, sometimes your wallet can scream pretty loudly, but let your ears do the talking...not the least if it can save you some bucks.
How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music?
@bdp24  Were you sneaking a look at my LP shelf?
How did 70s rock music transition into 80s music?
You say a lot of things that make sense, but to me the rock music of the early and mid Seventies simply didn't have the drive and energy that is so crucial to the genre. The music became obsessively self-absorbed. It was more interested in virtuos...
Shostakovich Fifth Symphony
I listened to a lot of Shostakovitch in my earlier days, and I still put the String Quartets on the turntable. The Second String Quartet veritably recreates the madness of the Stalinist Era and WWII before my eyes. Or is that ears?
What I really hate about some music
Why do I like Tommy James & the Shondells' "Hanky Panky" so much? Or PDQ Bach's "Running Knows" aria?
How many plays can you get out of a good record?
Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s, worn or badly misaligned needle/cartridges did do damage to a fair amount of the 33’s and 45’s in my collection. In particular I wonder if my meticulously set up but lousy tracking Denon 103 carved a few little nasti...
Politics and Music
@unreceivedogma  Thanks for the Laura Nyro vid. I might have mentioned this sometime before on this site, but Laura Nyro remains one of my favorite artists.I have all her records (at least I think I do). I saw her live several times, including a c...
Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable
For a while, me and my wife (the cyn in edcyn) had dueling systems with her's having a Linn and me having a SOTA. Frankly, I appreciated both. The Linn had better pitch stability and a punchier sense of drive. The SOTA gave better instrumental tim...
Thoughts on the Linn LP12 turntable
no_regrets Love your cello! Love your set-up, too. Just like mine, if maybe a bit more "up-market."
