Measuring turntable speed
I have a very lightweight paper strobe disc I put atop a spinning record.  I also sometimes find a record that I'm certain possesses a 440 hz A somewhere within it (any recording of a non-period instrument orchestral recording will have one) and t...
Were you naughty or nice? What did Santa bring you! Audio related only please!
A Primephonic subscription.  Fidelity ain't quite as fine as from Qobuz but via my Microsoft Edge it's still excellent.  If you like classical the site is a trip to the candy store.
Why go out???
I saw lots of first-rate projection and sound quality when I lived in L.A. Of course it depended on where you went but still...it still can exist. To me, though, the problem with the way the movie business now works is that, eighty percent of the ...
How Science Got Sound Wrong
Switch off the brain. Put some music on the steereo.  Maybe something like Yummy Yummy Yummy I Got Love in my Tummy.  And substitute the Hennessy Cognac for a bottle of Delamain.  None of it is cheap but even their cheapest bottle will give your m...
INNER GROOVE DISTORTION
Yeah, I'm a Neanderthal but my inner groove distortion bugaboos magically disappeared when I started avoiding spherical & elliptical styluses in favor of the more sophisticated profiles. Even though my line contact(?) Lyra Delos stylus is seei...
What are your top three live concerts of all time?
yyzsantabarbera -- Marley had yet to become an icon. I just drove down to the Roxy box office a couple days before the show and bought the ducats. I don’t remember having to stand in line. My date for the evening had no idea who Marley was or what...
What are your top three live concerts of all time?
I'll break the rules and contribute a couple more best live performances.  Bob Marley and the Wailers at the Roxy.  Front row. Television at the Whisky. Rudolf Serkin at UCLA's Royce Hall.  The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields...I wish I rememb...
How much of your free time is dedicated to listening to your stereo?
Maybe a couple hours a day. The thing is, I actually feel a bit guilty about spending time sitting in front of my stereo.  I feel I should be socializing, getting exercise, doing chores or putting time into my musical instruments.  Yeah, I'm retir...
Great choral music on lp
Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb and A Ceremony of Carols.  On Argo.
Lets see your listening room dimensions.
12’4"x14’6"x8’2" height. Stereo is situated along the longer wall. A 2’x5’ louvered, wooden-door closet sits on the stereo’s right flank, shortening the stereo wall by 2 feet.. Speaker placement ignores the existence of the closet, thus making it ...
Cat jumped on turntable
One of my cats regularly jumps onto my SOTA Sapphire, for one because it gives the best cat-centric view in my stereo room.  Because I always run the TT with the cover closed it's no problem.  Other than a revolution or two of eight track tape sty...
What do you say to your audiophile friends who say you just listen to your equipment more
Call me an unrepentant audiophile.  I just love listening to good sound.  Exulting in sheer tonal beauty. Getting lost inside an image. And if I feel the need to up the experience and I've got the lucre, I do it.
Looking for a small tube amp (possibly integrated tube amp)... low power, nice sound
I'm lovin' my Primaluna 30 watt integrated.  It's worth at least a look.
Fear of Streaming
Thanks to a record collector/audiophile father, a life-long penchant for hanging out at record stores and several years of actually working at them, I have lots of music on vinyl that I truly doubt will ever find itself to the streaming universe. ...
Another Music Direct Catalog observation
First off, I love the Music Direct Catalogue.  Eye candy...and potential ear candy...galore.  And now that I live in a town and on an island where the best audio store is the Office Max, I can't exactly head down to the cornucopia of high-end stor...
