Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier?
Why is this a question. What makes it a lesser amp? All the reviews have been very good and while I don't find reviews to be the way I judge devices, consitency usually indicates a good product.
A Question About Time Alignment
Be sure to not confuse time alignment with linear phase. Wilson speakers are time aligned, not linear phase, fundamentals and harmonics do not arrive at the same time. What time alignment is concerned with is when seperate drivers play the same fr...
Active Speakers Better? No, per Michael Borresen
Speakers are a reactive load meaning a combination of resistance, capacitance and inductance. Amplifiers don't like reactance. They want just resistance, alas. The less reactive the load the more the amp acts like its specs. An amplifier only need...
Things I don‘t know
Actually there is no sampling frequency for class D because class D is an analog encoding function. It is unfortunate that it's called class D. It was only called class D because it was the next amplifier format and it came after class C(lousy for...
What is the Best Sounding Stand Mount Speaker in the world?
No such thing. There are many that are very good and they all sound different. So it's the one you like. In my case the one I'd pick.
Most underrated female recording artists..
There are so many you can't count them. Many made a small living putting out a few albums and singing at coffee houses. Here's a few of my favorites that are undervalued: Bonnie Koloc - when she was a young a voice that could soar from one note t...
Help finding a subwoofer
I was using a set of SEAS Froy3 speakers and added a pair of 18" woofers crossed passively about 85 Hz designed by the SEAS designer(a friend) and the improvement in openness , detail and clarity was overtly noticeable even thoughthe Froy3 was alr...
Help finding a subwoofer
No suggestions but two comments. First an 8" woofer plus passive radiator is still just an 8" woofer. A passive radiator may look like a woofer but it's just a port substitute. Second, I know there are arguments against this but I'd look for a s...
Speaker cable
Positive and ground are really the same thing. It's just a convention which is positive or negative. A circuit goes in both directions in each of the two wires. Therefore both should be electrically the same. Anything else is BS.,
Preamps can color sound considerably. Surprising?
I had a friend, Murray Zeligman, who once wrote an article named 'Color Me Perfect'.
Herbie’s Spike Decoupling Gliders: my…experience
Decoupling seems to reduce vibration feeding back into the system components which reduces microphonics and it seems our systems have gotten good enough that microphonics affects the electronic performance in an a way that we can now here. Spiking...
Where did you buy your first audio gear?
My 1st system was a college graduation gift from my parents in 1964. I got super interested in audio due to other students in my dorm. It turned out that my uncle handled books for Dynaco and Dynaco had a close relationship with Acoustic Research ...
Mass-loading subwoofer
Some of the latest thinking is to isolate elements of the system from vibration and microphonics and there seems to be strong evidence for this. Consider looking into feet that isolate the subs from the floor rather than using feet that couple to ...
Does a turntable make a DRAMATIC difference?
Remember when setting up that changing VTF also changes VTA so you have to reset VTA every time you change VTF.
Shakti Stone
Any weight will affect vibration in the chassis which will affect microphonics which is a known cause of sonic change. This could be waht is heard with a Shkti stone and would be hard to separate from the claim of electro magnetic affects made by ...
