Is OPPO worth the inflated price? I contacted Oppo Service hoping to acquire a replacement LASER sled in advance of a failure. They said "no". I hope the Oppo will last more than five years as this is when service will cease.
Need advice I'm fascinated by the Wharfedale Linton Heritage. They're a little over your limit (without stands) but I'd check out if you can. Another option is KEF 201 Mk-I. I use these for home-theater and have never been let down. $3500 new in their hey-day...
Best sounding Nutcracker Album If you don't need the entire score, "The Royal Ballet Gala Performances" is highly regarded for sonics.
Speaker Cable Recommendations @dpm2340 - Wireworld Eclipse 7 is the all OCC-copper version in the Eclipse line. Others have silver-clad OCC copper, pure OCC silver and, I think, a combo copper-silver edition. You can find Eclipse 7 close to your price-point if you are patient.
Speaker Cable Recommendations Harmonic Technology Pro-9. Had them in my system for 15 years until trying Wireworld Eclipse 7. Both, coincidentally, use OCC copper. Most of my interconnects are HT Magics (Kimber Silver Streaks for phono duty).

Customer Service at Bowers and Wilkins I have owned Thiel 1.6s and 2.4SEs. Both were exceptional speakers. That said, my current B&W 804D3s are everything I want in a speaker. Do I wish their bass was deeper? Yes, but a modest 12-inch subwoofer fixes that. I also don't care for B&...
$250.00 for everything - amp, pre, usb dac ... I know what you mean. My 11 year old Onkyo HT receiver is awesome (I understand Onkyo QC started failing after my purchase which is sad). The only problem with my Onkyo is the radio has failed (I think). Used to work fine (analog AND digital recei...
Romex to your amp? Didn't necessarily mean "electric" juice. Meant "juicy slurpy goodness" juice. BTW, this was seventeen years ago.
Romex to your amp? See thread titled: "wiring my house for sound" (started 3-14-2002)My response:03-15-2002 6:36pm "If you want to get extreme, hard wire your mains to whatever uses them. For example, cut off the male connector of what usually plugs into the wall an...

Double run of speaker cables? This would be feasible if cables were "shotgun" (non bi-wire) configuration. Don't see how to do it with bi-wire cables.
Acoustic panels on ceiling I've been in a few concert halls where the panels are "floating" in mid-air. They are suspended by wires. You might try putting on an angle. If I were going to do this (panels on ceiling), I'd put them in the center of the room. YMMV.
Best Phono amp under $2000. Rega Aria v2 MM/MC phono preamplifier. About $1500 new.
Does Stacking Wireless Speakers Sound Feasible? After homework, looks like the "wireless" speakers must connect to each other via cat-6. Also, LS50 wireless are $4400/pr. Kinda takes the fun out of my thought experiment. |
