Reminder - It might be time to replace the rectifier tube if you have one. Instead of "3 year life-span", I prefer to measure in hours. I've had my new tube preamp for 1.5 years but only listen about six-hours a week.Should I still expect 3 year life-span?
New tubes...far more power?? Have you unplugged the amp since removing the old tubes? Your auto-bias circuit may be retaining the settings it used with your old tubes. Sometimes unplugging the amp resets to "factory settings". Leave it unplugged for an hour or so. I'd even re...
New tubes...far more power?? If the manual doesn't cover this, I'd contact the maker. Regards
New tubes...far more power?? Does your amp have auto-bias? If so, you may have to reset and bias to spec for new tubes. The auto-bias then maintains as needed. Check your manual.
PROAC D48R Bass Booming Go to a home store and ask for some pipe insulation. Measure the opening at the bottom of your speaker (looks like four or five inches). They make pipe insulation out of foam rubber and many different sizes so get some big enough to block the bott...
PROAC D48R Bass Booming Where are the speakers located? How close to a wall? If really close, move speakers out into the room to diminish the bass. If all else fails (assuming these are bi-wire speakers), bi-amp with another integrated amp so you have control over bass v...

Any love for newer Krell amps? I heard them at a 'Vegas T.H.E. show (around 2014) and liked them VERY much. Excellent solid-state amps.
Are Bowers and Wilkins speakers overpriced? Judging from the feedback, this post should have been titled:"Are B&W Speakers Worth the Cost?"
With what you know now what components doe you wish you had bought years ago? @mitch2 +1.I regret not buying Dunlavy SC IVa speakers.I regret not buying Hales model two signatures. My biggest regret is not buying an Audio Research SP-9 preamp when I purchased and ARC Classic 60 tube amp. Got an insanely good deal on the amp...
Are Bowers and Wilkins speakers overpriced? 804D3 owner. These are the best speakers I've ever owned. They are to large scale music what IMAX is to cinema. The have phenomenal dynamic range, speed and impact. They are strong in the sense they remain composed no matter what chaos is happenin...
AR XA Turntable cartridge High output. No step-up needed. These are famous for low cost and high performance. A company called "Zu" uses the stock 103 as a starting point and modifies into a new product.https://www.stereophile.com/phonocartridges/1207zu/index.htmlThe artic...
AR XA Turntable cartridge I used this TT around 1986 with a Denon 103. Had no complaints!
The speakers along your journey, do they signal a trend I believe most Canadian companies take advantage of a government built anechoic chamber for testing. This may result in some commonality of sound.
Any reason not to place stand mounted speakers upside down? How about sideways? |
