Mcintosh MC-352 or FPB 200 for B&W 802 B&W used the FPB600 and the FPB650M's to voice the "N" line of speakers. My advice (and I use Krell with my B&W speakers) would be to wait until you can afford the FPB300 rather than either of the two amps you suggest. By the way, Krell ad...
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers It depends. I used to use the rule of thumb of 50% of the total budget on speakers. That worked well (40%+) until I found a great speaker that could be made arguably the "best speaker on the planet" by actively bi-amping them. Now the actually spe...
OTL amps with Wilson Watt/Puppy 6s How about Graff?
what is the best super speaker and why? I would put my actively bi-amped, Krell driven, B&W800's up against any of these speakers. A few years back, Krell used them to introduce their FPB line. Dan D'Agostino chose them over the Wilson X-1's (which he also owned). He had called the ...
To plug in or not to plug in? One of my Krell 300 watt amps will draw 5000 watts at full power. You didn't specify your amp, but most people I know with large amps prefer to plug them directly into their DEDICATED outlets.Richard
What is a good amp that cost no more then 3500.00 KRELL FPB300 can be found occasionally for as low as $3300. The FBP200 can be found more easily in your price range, but many people feel the 300 and 600 are better choice for sound quality.Good luck.Richard
looking for upgrade suggestions - 12,000 to spend I agree with Ikarus. B&W800's are fantastic!....especially if you actively bi-amp them with the Krell KBX electronic crossover. If you have any questions about the fantastic speaker, fell free to contact me.Richard
Any great speakers out there? "CHEATING" ..... I wish contributors to this site would not use it to advertise a product on this site or others! (Note Tam124 thread above) I thought the moderator would have caught this bit of "cheating". Just my opinion.Richard
Any great speakers out there? I agree that the Studio Grand was a great speaker IF properly set up. But, I also agree with the designer that the older Diva was better. Did you ever hear the "cost no object" Apogee Grands at $85,000? Talk about goose bumps! In my personal opinio...
Mcintosh - Love Em' or Hate Em' ......Why? For years I used two Mc 2105's to drive my speakers. I then tried one Krell KST100. This, at the time, was the smallest and cheapest amp that Krell had made. Comparing the two was a "no-brainer" ... The Krell blew away the Mac's. I have owned Krel...
Recommend a good value X-over w/stereo low end In my opinion, the Krell KBX is the best money can buy, but it might not be in a reasonable price range for your system.Good luck.Richard
Define high current amp? I am no expert, but from all I have heard, Tubofun is right. ... OTL tube amps are fantastic for ESL's; especially Soundlabs. I have heard the big Soundlabs driven by OTL's and it was a match made in heaven! I think I would add the Graaf amps to y...
Pass 600 Monos vs Krell 350 monos A point to remember: B&W used the FPB650 to voice the "N" line of speakers.Enjoy,Richard
Mono amps... Regarding "Asterix" generalized comment about reduced sound quality from bridging .......Cello's Performance amps when bridged produced thousands of watts and sounded better than when not bridged.Richard
What is the "design" of the "ULTIMATE" loudspeaker Dan D'Agostino has written a "white paper" on how to make some minor adjustement to the B&W800's so that they can be actively bi-amped with his custom KBX electronic crossover. He once called them "the best speaker on the planet." ................ |
