Electrostatic Speakers/SS amp - what tube preamp? On Audiogon: Rogue 99 magnum for $1500 or Cary 88 for $1200 would be your best choices. If you're looking at an AE-3, from experience, the DJH version is a big step up.
Office Separates System???? Cambridge Audio integrated (or NAD) and CD500 se. Classe makes an all in one unit like the Linn (a copy) that's been discontinued, but still some units available.
How do you troubleshoot a pair of Aerial 10Ts? 3) I had Sonic Frontiers SFM 160's and they didn't do the job. These speakers like solid state and power. The Soliloquy's were a much better match to your tube amps.
Speaker Suggestion for teenage pre-stereophile Paradigm Studio Reference 20 monitors are a good value and sound great with NAD gear. Someone is selling here on Audiogon. Also B&W make nice monitors 601-602 series 3. These will all have good resale value. Think ahead. Are you going to be li...
Who and what are BEL/Bell Labs amplifiers Another source of information is to do a search on audioasylum.com under BEL. Lots of chat there.
Please help - system "brightness" problem The Tyler ref monitors can sound bright, particularly with solid state (which Ty prefers). There is a switch on the back to "step down" the highs which helps a bit. Also try a high quality jumper if you're not biwiring. That will help clear up the...
groovin organ based soul & jazz Joey DiFrancesco is cool. Most recent release is "Ballads and Blues" with Pat Martino and Gary Bartz. Of course Jimmy Smith is "da boss"--just about anything he does for the past 40 yrs is great. Another classic player, Larry Young, get his album ...
Speaker advice: $1200 budget Do a search for soliloquy on A'gon. The 5.0's are beautiful speakers for $750/stands included. The 5.3's are going for $1100-1200.
System for a teenager I might be off-base here, but a good mid-fi system with NAD components might be the most enjoyable and hassle-free system for a teenager. Do an Audiogon search and you can find very reasonably priced gear from NAD, either DVD/CD or CD players, ste...
Front port vs. Rear Port The Tyler Reference Monitors are front ported. I've been using them close to the wall, although I suppose they'd sound better out in the room with some air to breath and image with. Excellent speakers frequently auctioned by Ty himself here on Aud...
High value floorstanders around $1k used On Audiogon: Paradigm Studio 100 V.2 Black Laminate No relation, but a great speaker for the $.
Suggestions for small bookshelf speakers? Unico integrated/Soliloquy 5.0. My 2 bits.
Good, warm, musical, under $500 used monitor Soliloquy 5.0. Warm and musical esp with tubes.
Anyone familiar w/Cary SLP-98 preamp? I have the AE-1 which is a stripped down version without phono, so I can't comment on that. Very nice preamp with a beautiful presentation that is a little tubey (in a nice way). Do a search under slp-98 on www.audioasylum.com for other owner comm...
Tyer Acoustics Monitors and SET amp, how are they? Ty unabashedly prefers solid state amps with lots of power. So his speakers are voiced that way. 30 watts Superamp triode per channel push-pull amp does ok on the monitors. The Rogue 88 did better with 60 watts ultralinear. |
