Want to build my own equipment. Look at tubes4audio.com or diytubes.com Both have kits and are a good starting place. I love my st-50 and st-80, which are quite musical and competitive with the big name amps I've had. Roy at tubes4audio can have a very nice top plate fabricated....
Please help an aging, music deprived mom Look at maplshadeaudio.com for rebuilt vintage Scott gear. That may be your ticket.
Small and satisfying. Please help me. No one has mentioned the Aego 5. Comes in black or white with processor. The distributor is liquidating these on eBay. I bought mine for $425 shipped. Neat little system with good reviews from audiophile mags.

Smooth jazz recommendations Even my girlfriend (who admittedly doesn't care for jazz) likes the Charlie Haden cd's: "A Night in the City" with Kenny Barron on piano- a duet in a nightclub setting with a good system sounds like you are right there. Great dim light music at di...
Recommendations on mid-fi speakers I would vote for the Soliloquy 5.3. Very musical speaker that is somewhat forgiving of electronics. Can be driven by tubes or solid state. Nice looking as well. Word is that the new Soliloquy models are coming out in Jan so discounts available.
What is the best tweak? Since your hearing is the most important aspect of hearing sound, I'd suggest the best tweak is having your ears cleaned of any wax!
Tube integrated amp for my son's first system. I like the idea of the Wave 8's. I think they're stopping production so now would be the time to buy. On Audiogon there's a hybrid Jolida 301 for $200 from jeffssoundvalues.com and a Dec Zen for $350. If you want something that will last and to do...

Getting started with integrated-advice. If you like the NAD stick with it so you can use the remote on both pieces. A friend has an NAD combo with the Paradigm Ref 20 speakers and sounds quite musical for the $$. Try some DH labs cables and interconnects, inexpensive but good.
Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7U vs. Linbrook Sig. Monitor I have both the Ref monitors and the Linbrook Sigs. They are voiced differently. Rgd gives a good description of the sound. The monitor is more detailed, more treble-tilted than the Linbrooks. With a PS Audio HCA2 amp they certainly do not lack ba...
Change Amp or go Integrated Ok I've had 3 of those amps! I found the Aragon MkI pretty lifeless on a pair of a/d/s 1290 towers. The Rogue is a nice tube amp for the money; somewhat forward for tubes and decent bass. Very nice midrange, highs are not as refined. The PS HCA2 n...
DH labs q-10? T-14 is known for thin bass. Excellent mids and highs. Even when biwired the T-14 still was weak. Try the Q-10! I haven't heard it, but it's probably not a claim.
Is it the tube pre or the rca/xlr adapter? The BAT adaptors are better than many others on the market but I found they degrade the sound in comparison to using balanced cables. The BAT pre also needs to warm up for at least a half hour before serious listening. You might want to burn in yo...
odyssey extreme compared to odyssey mono's You can find some discussion of this at audiocircle.com under the manufacturer's discussion site. There are positive reviews depending on your system needs. |
