What is better, analog or digital?
If you like junk food, digital is fine. If you prefer more tasty and healthy cuisine stay with analogue.
Hear my Cartridges....🎶
Halcro,Heartless is a bit harsh - we all aspire to great sound and wish it upon all. I'm reading forums to take a break from renovations and politics. From a quick listen XL88 vs Signet - XL88 sounding a little brittle, but compared to the Signet h...
Technics SL1000 MK3 (SP10 MK3) performance/value VS modern turntables?
Lewm - just to be clearI use to listen to an SP10mk3 just about every night for about 3-4 years back in the early 80's - purchased NZ new, Technics EPA100mk2, and various cartridges bog standard and immaculately maintained by a precision engineer,...
Technics SL1000 MK3 (SP10 MK3) performance/value VS modern turntables?
I visited the Krebs website and found nothing in the price list at 2500$ for the modifications of the Technics MK3 you get to max 1200$ and in any case its modifications do not convince me.If Technics SP10 owners are contemplating the krebsupgrade...
Technics SL1000 MK3 (SP10 MK3) performance/value VS modern turntables?
@atmasphere I think the SP10MkIII is better than the new 10R because it has so much more torque. But a good deal of that was so it could be used for LP mastering and I suspect that was not their goal with the newer version. Yes but no one has addr...
Help! Antiskate with only a weight...no dial, and she's skating away!
@stringreen I suggested this to check that the arm was mounted on a level base and there is no dominant drift in or out.I have seen some TT’s where the armboard was not level and anti skate had to be very high to offset the drift. From the video he...
Replaced Mylar Belt with Kapton (Polyimide) Belt. Very Nice Results
@artemus_5Couple of issues with mylar1. UV light degrades it over time2. Flexing of mylar film reduces its stability.Ultimately it stretches and becomes brittle over time.Kapton is more stable over a longer period of time and wide range of conditi...
PCTI tonearm by rauliruegas
@lewm Unlike many on this forum I prmarliy comment ( be it praise or criticise ) on products I either own or have used/set up listened to extensively.Occasionally I will make technical observations based on technical knowledge and experience.
PCTI tonearm by rauliruegas
@cardani Thats great to hear. I appreciate that Raul has had a vast array of experience with arms & cartridges, but I am a little sceptical of some of his observations conclusions for two reasons1. He claims that his digital front end ( an old...
Help! Antiskate with only a weight...no dial, and she's skating away!
If you can't hear a difference it makes no difference. That statement is totally illogical.
New turntable: TW or Obama?
@jaym759 I would agree a new Cosmos would be great, but the Kuzma 4point11 I suspect might be too heavy for the sprung chassis. The 4Point11 in my view is much better than the 4point9 and thats why I recommended the Kuzma TT with the 4Point11.Do y...
Help! Antiskate with only a weight...no dial, and she's skating away!
@cabalaskaPlease do this test.Remove platter.Remove antiskate weight.Balance the arm/cartridge to zero - so the arm is floating. If the arm at zero balance, with no anti skate floats in or out then the arm mount is not level. This could be the cause...
If you have a Steelhead-
@lewm Cathode followers convert voltage to current while dramatically reducing output impedance and adding no gain to the signal. (Which is why it makes little sense to sub the stock tubes with very expensive equivalents.) My experience is that ch...
New turntable: TW or Obama?
I’ve heard both Raven & Kuzma. They are both great- however I prefer the Kuzma by some margin - the 4point11 arm is a superb arm, transparent and very quick.Set up and on the fly VTA on the Kuzma is super easy due to the great design.I think th...
Savoie Turntable by Galibier Design
Are they now also putting hotel names on turntables or nostalgia for the royal house dynasty? Savoie comes from the latin sapaudia or sabaudia, meaning land covered in fir trees. It's a region in France. Not as bad as the Ortofon Beethoven - do you...
