RB300 VTA adjustment on Nottingham Horizon
Ballywho,I'm not familiar with the Horizon, but Expressimo Audio sells an extended nut that fits the Rega threads and gives you about an inch more length to work with. That might help.
DLP vs Plasma/LCD
Jer,I took the 8,000 hours from my memory of researching/discussing the HLN437W last summer. That's no longer a current model so I can't find a link that shows that now. Take it FWIW I guess. Samsung's current DLP product brochure states, "The bul...
RRL Cleaner, Vinyl Zyme, and Groove Glide
Hey, it was a show. He was probably a bit alchohol-based himself when he said that!
Solid stylus cleaners: Extreme Phono vs. Onzow Zer
jes45@aol.com,I'm sure the real-world risk is small, you'd have to be pretty careless. I was just trying to balance the extreme 10-100x VTF statement with an extreme counterexample. I never clean my stylus after more than one cup of coffee. ;-)
RRL Cleaner, Vinyl Zyme, and Groove Glide
Colitas,Glad you got it working. I agree about the amount of RRL, less is more IME. Typically I dribble one row of almost-touching drops across the grooves, excluding the runout grooves. That meters the # of drops relative to the amount of groove ...
Solid stylus cleaners: Extreme Phono vs. Onzow Zer
Shasta,I tried the matchbook striker based on 30 years of use by Twl, one of the most experienced analog professionals on this or any forum. And yes, I was terrified the first time I used it. It actually works okay and the price is certainly right...
What happened to Discwasher?
Any brush will need to be replaced after enough uses, as Mr. Kidknow said. I like the Disc Doctor brushes, which come with replaceable pads. The handles will last forever. As Hammy suggested, brushing and wet cleaning without vacuuming is largely a...
Solid stylus cleaners: Extreme Phono vs. Onzow Zer
Extremephono wrote, "Zerodust, Magic Eraser, and liquid-on-a-brush puts 10-100x more force on the cantilever then what it's designed for (i.e. 2.0g VTF)."I'm sorry but that's just a huge red herring... 1. People have been using all these stylus cl...
Solid stylus cleaners: Extreme Phono vs. Onzow Zer
Slipknot1,Thanks for the interest. I don't know why more people haven't tried it, perhaps I made it sound more dangerous than it is. As Twl pointed out, unless you do something klutzy it's as safe as any other method. If you can't find the "compone...
DLP vs Plasma/LCD
Jer,The estimated bulb life in Sammy DLP's is 8,000 hours, not 1,000 or 5,000. Where did you see those numbers?$300 every 3-4 years is easier to budget for than risking having to replace an entire plasma due to burn in or steadily diminishing lumi...
RRL Cleaner, Vinyl Zyme, and Groove Glide
I used self-stick felt or velvet (forget which). Vacuum felts need to be changed regularly as they get contaminated and this made it easier.I vacuumed with my GroovMaster on the record. That protected the label and gave me something to hold it dow...
RRL Cleaner, Vinyl Zyme, and Groove Glide
Styx,Regardless of what cleaning solution you use, removing contaminated solutions from the record before they evaporate is essential. Otherwise, when the liquid evaporates all the gunk that it's holding in suspension ends up right back in the gro...
Solid stylus cleaners: Extreme Phono vs. Onzow Zer
I vote for neither. My DIY stylus cleaner works better than any commercial stylus cleaner I've tried, including Extreme Phono, Zerodust, LP #9 and Last. Info here:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1079733653&read&keyw&zz...
Spindle oil
Slappy, you win this thread! ROTFL.
Output Voltage
I agree with Sidssp. 5-10db more gain before the line stage (or a cartridge with 4-5mv output) would probably make your analog source sound more dynamic and alive (not just "louder").
