Who will survive? One last table til I die. Gregadd, Excellent and well-argued post, at least when I read it through my many-colored glasses. ;-)Suttlaw, Glad to hear the Airy2 is breaking in well. The choice between it and the Airy3 really is a matter of system synegy and taste. If it give...
Who will survive? One last table til I die. If you are serious about invest 3,400.00 on a phono cable, my advise is that put that money on a better phono preamp or better cartridge/tonearm combo or a subwoofer, before you change that cable.I agree with Raul. The phono cable can't play what ...
$800 Cartridge Shootout and Upgrade Path Should it break, I will replace it for free(it happened once during shipping and the only other incident involved a parrot...)I have no more problems with parrots. The two cats took of them!Doug (Schroeder admirer with no liklihood of buying any t...
Super Scoutmaster or Teres? Edle,Good advice, but they both have freestanding motors. ;-)Readster,What differences lead you to prefer the SS to the 245/255? Can you elaborate?
Scoutmaster to Super Scoutmaster? There are many posts on VA from Scout/Scoutmaster owners who got improved performance by adding the SDS, a Walker controller or a Teres motor/contoller. I don't remember anyone who failed to notice a significant improvement.I have an aftermarket p...
Analog Upgrade Suggestions Welcome Msiebers,I believe that article was more valid at the time it was presented than it is today, due to changes in the analog playback environment.Only a few turntables that existed in 1977 could match today's better decks for lack of rumble, wow, fl...
Analog Upgrade Suggestions Welcome Msiebers,Sorry if I came on strong. Like you, I had no desire to offend. Providing the context for your Shelter 501 experience was valuable of course, as long as Mark doesn't necessarily expect the same on a different arm. IME the character of a c...
Analog Upgrade Suggestions Welcome Mstram,If I'd known you were ready to jump in the 901's direction I'd have offered to lend you mine at no cost but shipping. You could have made a decision based on your own ears. I'm sure you'll enjoy the cartridge, which is a pretty good one. Go...
Who will survive? One last table til I die. Suttlaw,First, you are forgiven for your multiple sins! Nice find for your one last analog rig.RE: Airy2Right now I can say it has a wide and deep soundstage, great imaging, incredible low level detail retrieval, good transients, good tone. Your i...
Who will survive? One last table til I die. Congrats also.Have you heard the Airy3 yet? There's quite a difference from the already wonderful Airy2.
Quit vinyl? I wonder if your reluctance to make this decision reflects an attachment to your 400 records, to your rig or both?If it's mostly your records you feel attached to, why not sell the rig but keep the records? That way when you come to your senses al...
Must pull trigger-- quick arm help please The 250 also accepts TWL's HIFI mod and my VTF on-the-fly mod easier than the 300. Maybe not a big issue with a 10x5, but certainly a huge issue if there's ever a chance of using a lower compliance cartridge. I vote 250.
End of Record Distortion Jea48,Is that static sound worse in the left channel? If so, and assuming that cleaning does not help, I'd suspect a pressing flaw. That sound can be caused by the vinyl not flowing fully down into the L channel groove modulations, typically becau...
Advice for new vinyl gear ...it is bad when Maria Callas sounds like Tom Waits.Indeed, particularly if she was the "replacement" you had in mind as your next "hot little number"!ROFL
Cartridge break-in: with or without tears? Rene, Your theory makes sense and my break-in experiences have been similar. A low compliance Shelter 901 took forever. It was virtually unlistenable (screechy) before 50-75 hours and I'm not sure it was fully broken in even at 150. It lived on th... |
