Tonearm for Teres turntable - approx $1000 - ??
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not soldering anything to my headshell clips! Some people could probably do that safely and also be confident they could remove them later with no residue, but I'm not that good with a soldering iron.I'd eith...
Graham Phantom vs the Graham 2.2
Raul,You are living the dream (that's a good thing!) though I'm disappointed to learn you can "only" mount ten tonearms at one time. Surely you can do better than that. I'm not sure how you have time to eat or sleep.Fascinating story about the Lus...
Graham Phantom vs the Graham 2.2
Dgad,Nice summary, and nice sentiment too.Doug, everything in this world is a trade-off. One of the heavy advantages of this tonearm is that you can change different effective mass arm wands, I can't imagine ( I would like ) how to do this with ou...

Agreed, thanks!
Graham Phantom vs the Graham 2.2
Interesting ideas from Raul, many of which I like. Certainly the difficulty of comparing arms is not easily overcome, and great care must be taken when making or offering comparisons. Synergy with other components - especially cartridges - makes a...
Tonearm for Teres turntable - approx $1000 - ??
Raul,Is there any risk that the high output voltage of a CDP could damage some phono cables? Obviously they're designed to carry 1/10th the voltage or even less.I don't know, just asking...Doug

There's much wisdom on this thread, but none any wiser than this:... the only person injured by the anger is the one carrying it. Thanks, John.Welcome to Pat's sister Mary! Now that you know what sort of crowd your brother hangs out with, we won't...
Tonearm for Teres turntable - approx $1000 - ??
Holly,I'm jealous. I nearly snagged a used DP-6 for our new Teres back in 2003, but somebody else grabbed it first. We got an OL Silver instead, since we couldn't stomach the price for a new DP-6. $2,000 for a tonearm?! (Oh, to be so naive again.)...
Tonearm for Teres turntable - approx $1000 - ??
I can't think of any sub-$2K arm I'd clearly prefer to a DP-6, but my actual experience is fairly limited. The few arms I *know* I'd prefer all list for $3K and up. Maybe that makes the DP-6 a serious contender for best-in-class?The DP-6's clumsy ...
Tonearm for Teres turntable - approx $1000 - ??
Gregg,It's harder to spend $1,000 (effectively) than it is to spend $2,000!Oakiris,Remember, all I said is I'd take a chance on a DP-6 before I'd buy a 2.2. I haven't actually heard a DP-6 so that hardly constitutes a recommendation. Of course Rau...
Tonearm for Teres turntable - approx $1000 - ??
Oakiris,I don't have Raul's knowledge about the history of tonearms, but from what I've seen and heard I agree with him. I've not used a Moerch but I have used a Graham 2.2. IMO a new one is one of the most overpriced components around, particular...
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Pat,Thank you for the update, and please never hesitate to share your whole story with your friends. That's what we're here for, even if we're sometimes too frightened to know what to say. Though it seems backwards and some might think it unfair, ...
cartridge demagnetizing vs. no demagnetization
Jonathon Carr of Lyra once posted an excellent explanation on VA of why it's safe and effective on some cartridges, ineffective or even dangerous on others. Search there under his user name "jcarr" and you'll find it.Like Jependleton I use the Car...
Helikon or Shelter 501/901 ?
Holy jump!Nah. I went straight from a 25-year-old ADC XLM MkII to a Shelter 901. No baby steps, I'd never heard a MC before making that move. That was a Kierkegardian moment!Davew, sorry for the hijack. I've never heard a Helikon so I could only r...
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Hey, Pat's really into cars, though probably not the dealer-sold kind. He actually built his own street drag racer basically from the ground up.I can't believe a hospital allows that, in a surgical recovery ward?! I'd be beyond livid. Go get 'em Pat!
