DIY stylus-cleaning magic long
Jes45, removing any residue is certainly important, critical even. If the Magic Eraser compound is as microscopically abrasive as Paul says you don't want any left on the stylus. We dry brush, since our cartridge maker warns against alchohol based...

Ps: " You'll have to hurry, the 103 line is being discontinued ". Dougdeacon: ยก BRAVO ! Thank's God is being discontinued, in that way it can't do it more harm to anyone.LOL. Good one Raul. I think the Denons are excellent performers for their pri...

You guys are too rich, wasting quarters that way. On VA the first guy to use a coin got flamed for wasting a dime! When it reaches the Phonogram lists they'll probably use cryoed Spanish doubloons. LOL.

For your SME 3010-R I agree with Cello, pick up a Denon DL-103R. It should be an acceptable mass and compliance match and it's a wonderful cartridge for the money (<$300). You'll have to hurry, the 103 line is being discontinued.I also agree wi...

Review: ZYX Airy2 and Airy3 Cartridge
Thanks for your response. My calculation was wrong. The best cartilage loading in my Airy 3 was 12 ohms at first, and after about 5 hours it went down to between 9 to 10 ohms. Aha! Good to know neither of us is going deaf. Prepare for further down...
Review: ZYX Airy2 and Airy3 Cartridge
Yhyun,What is the actual resistive value of the resistors that sound best? Are you calculating the load seen by the cartridge correctly? Not trying to be cute, I just want to be sure there really is a big difference before I start rattling off any...

Spencer,Bombaywalla has/had a CAT SL1 Signature MkIII. You can read his review on Tubes Asylum. Maybe he can advise on how it handles lower output cartridges. My guess is you'll need a stepup, though 20db might be too much. If your line stage is t...
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Paul,Thank you for the update. The news, daunting as it is, seems somewhat better than the worst Pat told me he was expecting. It sounds cliche, but if they removed 1/3 of his stomach then he has 2/3 of one left. If the stomach and some length of ...
Advice needed, MC cartridge for SpaceArm?
I have a friend with a Space Deck and Space Arm. He wanted something more neutral than his Grado and more resolving than his Denon.I sent him my Shelter 901 to try (that offer is open to all A'gon members by the way, just email me). But I also tol...

Scottht,Your advice was good, and well-intentioned too, but you obviously got to him too late. He's doomed.OTOH we have another new friend on the analog forum.
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
Patrick,It's good to have you back with us after your visit home. What a wonderful gift from Steve. It was a gift that reflects the true spirit of its recipient as much as its giver. "The love you take is equal to the love you make." Because you m...
Help me find a Simple Hi End Turntable
Metralla had the best advice IMO. Find a reputable dealer or audiophile nearby and pay them to help. Every rig above my old Fischer-Price needs occasional tweaking and adjustment. That is the nature of trying to make music by dragging tiny rocks t...

Oakiris,Our equipment (except speakers) is all in/on a Salamander Synergy Triple 20. See it here:http://www.mander.com/syn/synergy.jsp?modelbase=sl20This stand is decidedly NOT audiophile approved. In fact it rings like a bell. I know that so plea...
